How can we be sure that humans are the smartest animals on earth?

I don't think it matters really. What would it change if we figured out some other animal is smarter than us? We still can't sit down and have a conversation with it, ask it about things we humans care about and it may well not give a shit. And if we prove we are the smartest in the whole universe, okay? That doesn't mean we will stop exploring and trying to find new life forms, even if we know they will be "intellectually inferior." Nothing would really change either way, and it shouldn't. We should keep learning about the animals we already know and keep looking for any other ones too.

There was a theory that whales are smarter than humans. If that is true how come they run themselves up on the beach and get stuck there and die? Hoe come they haven't figured out a way not to get tangled up in fishing gear?
