President Trump announced he had instructed Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to have the Treasury Department stop making new pennies, explaining that it costs more than two cents to make them.

That Bastard Musk is at it again!!! A post Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency said that the penny costs more than three cents to make and cost American taxpayers “over $179 million in 2023.”

This idea was brought up more than 25 years ago in Congress, but it got no traction for one big reason: banking industry and money siphoning. Banks and credit card companies were making a fortune rounding up transactions and taking the 1/2 cent difference.

For example, you make a credit card purchase of $98.50 and there's a transaction fee of 1.75%. That fee is $1.72375. However, depending on your the merchant's bank, that fee shows up on your card most likely as $1.75, or at best, $1.73. At best, where did the $0.00625 go, or at worst for you, the $0.02625? It went to the credit card processing company or to the bank. Multiply that by however transactions take place and that's a shit ton of money.

Corporations weren't going to give that up back then. Now they'll be a round up or down system, but they'll still make money on it. This idea is long overdue, but try to get your little brain to understand that it was voted DOWN continuously by both sides of the aisle for many years. Enjoy the gaslighting day you deserve.

I think the penny should be done away with too. That way idiots won't be selling stuff for $4.99 instead of just saying $5. No one even uses them and just throws them in a 5 gallon water bottle. If they took all the pennies in jars or cans and turned them in, they would probably total $1 billion.
