A lot of employees just won't respect a female boss from the outset, which makes it very hard for her to do her job well - many men feel emasculated by a female superior, and women just love to bitch about other women who are more successful (same as if they're prettier or whatever).
On the other hand, if they are respected by their employees, women can manage people very effectively, and tend to be far less heavy-handed.
Personally, I'm not very good with being told what to do. The male bosses I've had, have never known how to get the most out of me. I didn't like or respect them, they didn't like or respect me, and consequently I was very unmotivated and didn't do my job as well as I could have, which just lead to even more conflict. They probably would have loved to fire me, but they always needed me far more than I needed them.
On the other hand, the female bosses have always treated me as more of an equal - they've been more polite and respectful, and it's lead to a far more pleasant and productive working relationship.

I don't think it's based on gender but from personal experience some of my better bosses have been men.. but that could just be because there are generally more men bosses to gain an opinion of.
It really depends on the person. But from what I learned in my business class last semester, I guess they're finding out that on average woman make better managers. I think it has something to do with the fact that they're usually more used to multi-tasking and they're also usually more sensitive and easier to work for. I've had two different full-time jobs myself. One where I had a male boss and my current where I have a female boss. I have to say that I like my current boss better. We work in a very laid back atmosphere and everybody's always in a good mood. There's no stress. But of course, that's only two people so who knows.
I guess I would prefer a man. From all the jobs that I've had, literally every time my boss was a woman she was a bitch and really intimidating (BUT the woman bosses have always been more organized and direct in telling me what they wanted me to do). All of my male bosses have been more laid back, allow me to joke around with them, and also easy to suck up to and get away with a lot more just because I'm a girl haha
There are a lot less women as bosses so they many of them tend to have a certain attitude. Many can be mean, insulting, and angry. Then there are the good female bosses that don't let their power get to their heads.
For men, eh, you'll have some sweet, some arrogant, some honest, and some tools.

I'd prefer a man as my boss.
Working environment:
My field is very technical and there are few women within the field. Last time I had a female boss, it was just impossible to explain her certain circumstances and she made some very bad decisions because she did not understand technology. She spent $20k on a project that I later redid from scratch in less than a week.
Confidence:
Due to the society we live in, many women with power think that they need to prove themselves. As a boss, they will sometimes be irrational and persistent because they are afraid that their authority will be questioned if they don't stand to their initial point of view.
Exceptions in high ranking:
Even though I wouldn't like my own boss to be a women, I wouldn't mind a women being the someone much higher ranked than me, like CEO of the company. From my experience, these women have overcome their doubts and do their jobs as good as men.Men for suuuuuuure, I have had about 10 jobs in my lifetime and to be honest women are almost the worse. WOmen bosses are too controlling in my opinion, they always want things to do in their way, they are always checking out your work, they are always bossing around...do this, do that even though you already know what to do, like obvious things too anyways. Also with women you gotta be more careful if you want to joke around and talk while working. Men are much more relaxed in my opinion, obviously they want results and they check that you are doing things well. But for the most part men bosses are much less controlling, they let you do things your own way, they are not there checking your work all the freacking time, they are easy to joke around too and the workiing environment seems to be more relaxed, a male boss will must likely let you talk while at work and etc.
Gender really has very little to do with one's ability to lead and manage people. I've met both men and women who are bad at it (most people are). If I had to pick though, I'd rather have a male boss, because if he's an ass I can complain about him without being called a sexist.
i think this question is a bit bias. It really depends on the person and not the gender. If the man was a homeless bum compared to a woman who knows her standards, then the obvious answer would be the woman. Whereas we switch it around, the man would be the answer.
am I right? Some people make great managers. Those people know how to deal with people and provide an atmosphere where they can utilize their subordinates' strengths. I've seen both women and men be great leaders. Anyway for the questions sake, I would choose a man because there would be no sexual tension.
Women are usually the worse bosses; however, there aren't as many of them as there are men.
I have worked in MANY jobs. I have never not had a job. Women are the WORSE bosses. I only know of maybe two good women bosses. In the past Men used to be the best leaders , but that's because many women didn't get a chance. But now there isn't that concept where men were more important than women. Nowadays both men and women have a fighting chance . Some times men can be too tough and straight and women can be too kind and thoughtful ...sooo anyone who is both kind, tough, straightforward , Intelligent can be a good leader.
Better for whom? Do you mean the firm or the employees? I think you mean maybe the wage earners. By the last one I can`t say, who is better. There is no objective measure for such, so I/you must have a lot of experiences for this, first then you can make a judgement.
My experiences are not big enough, for to do such. My imagination is saying following: a boss is a boss, doesn`t matter which gender it is.Men, women think too emotionally, not a sexist remark but actual fact. Men are more logical which is better overall for a leader.
Depends on the person. The only problem is I could see with a women is that might be one hell of a week each month. lol
Men, I know I'm not a good leader, and many of my friends aren't either. What I've seen in men is that they can easily handle the stress and responsibily of being a leader while most women just get too overwhelmed and irritable about it. I had a girl that was my boss for a couple years and she was a total bitch and couldn't do her job, but then she got reassigned by our company to a different location and now we have a male boss and I like him a lot more since he knows what he's doing.
Men they are protective, aggressive, and logical women tend to be more emotional. Although some women can be total bitches! Including me :p
MEN very easily. Here's why - Men make decisions based more on logic whereas women make decisions based more on emotion. End of discussion.
It doesn't depend on your gender it depends on your leadership skills, work ethic, and abilaty to deal with changes etc
Generally women can't handle power and will turn into Hitlerettes if given a chance. Sure, there are many exceptions, but that's the way to bet. Some men are like that but not nearly as many.
Both equally have thier ups and downs.
There is non better.I only had one women boss but she was a nervous wreck and couldn't make a decision without driving everybody crazy with her hundreds of stupid questions. But I saw a woman as the head of a university and she had great leadership. I had very good men bosses and some not so good. So based on my experience I can say both genders can do good and both can screw up.
I would most of the time choose women as my superior. Most women have mostly a better overview than most men. Ofcourse there's exceptions though.
I've worked for quite a few male& female bosses. I can't choose. You get cool ones and dumb managers and ones that are okay. And that goes for either.
man because I don't get along with woman as much as I do men
