Where did the idea that Jewish people secretly rule the world come from?

Many seem to believe this ridiculousness so does anyone know how this idea started and any facts to back it up?

Well Jews in America are 1% of the population similar in Britain and Europe yet Jews are disproportionately represented in high postions of influence in wallstreet, in banking, in finance, in politics, in Hollywood, in science, in colleges, in the media and on and on.

Give you an example in 1918 Germany, the new Weimar government that formed that surrendered to the western allies was heavily stocked with Jewish politicians. This would later be used by the nazis blaming Jewish politicians for stabbing the German army in the back while it was still fighting inside france. Also the nazis would use the wallstreet crash which resulted in American banks recalling loans made to Germany causing a major economic depression and hyperinflation on Jewish bankers, Jewish wallstreet stock brokers and Jewish politicians. Also a lot of communist leaders in Germany and in Russia in the 1900s and during and after ww1 were Jewish. Then you had Jewish families like the Rothchilds who had so much money through banking and had branches of its family in almost every country, they were very influential.

How much time ya got? I'll give you the lesson I taught for global history as to the origins of antisemitism.

Strike 1: absolute monotheism. By being mono in a poly world it implies that EVERYONE else was wrong with their poly ideas. Neighbors don't like that even if unintentional.

Strike 2: Not only is there one God, but we have a special covenant with him, we are his chosen people. Neighbors didn't like that either.

Strike 3: Refusal to assimilate, "threats" of Messianic judgement day, EASILY publicly identifiable, VERY insular with WEIRD customs like circumcision, no pork, no meat & dairy together, scapegoat ritual, mikveh (bathing), payot (male side hair curls), kosher only purchases, no prohibition against interest bearing loans & mandatory male literacy. Neighbors didn't like ANY that either.

Put that all together with the Roman destruction of the second temple and resulting Diaspora with rabid Christian antisemitism and you get today.

Talking out my ass mostly with playing crusaders kings. but Jewish faith communitys are more tight nit then most being prosecuted left right and center.

Then you have the catholic church calling loan intrest a sin. So Let's abuse and subjegate this minority group as banking was needed to grow empires.

So your family has been forced into a job for hundreds of years and now today it's seen as some conspiracy that they now control the world. The whole world hates you for the arrogance of existing. Then the hate feeds upon itself like an endless machine to justify itself.

It's the oldest (monotheistic) religion in the world, so there was plenty of time to amass enemies and conspiracy kooks. It's also a fairly closed-off religion, contrary to Christianity and Islam, they don't send out missionaries to proselytize. And last but not least, today's Arabs/Israeli conflict brings a lot of haters to "confuse" Israelis with Jews.

Anti-Semitism, the modern iteration dates back to the Rothschild banking family but plenty of traders and artisans throughout history were Jewish

Historic anti-Semitism which has been used to justify pogroms over the centuries, including of course, the Holocaust.

Yeah, Jews became the scapegoat for competing religions and just general hate of "others" down through the centuries. Since they were always a minority and a closed community, they were the easy target for anyone with a political agenda who needed a boogeyman.
