Life on Earth is a constant struggle for everyone to some extent. It's why we evolved and other life forms are gone. I think Rest In Peace is a recognition that those struggles have ended for the dead.

I think it’s because over 90% die due to sickness or painful health situations and less than 10% die peaceful and painless deaths. I wanted my grandma to die when she was in her late 90s because she would scream in pain for 8 hours a day. I knew if she died she would be at peace.
