In the Gospel of Mark 3:25, Jesus states, "And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand." “A house divided against itself cannot stand.” Abraham Lincoln, June 16, 1858.

First, let's recall Lincoln's 1858 antebellum speech in which that phrase comes from.

In my opinion, it will not cease, until a crisis shall have been reached, and passed -

"A house divided against itself cannot stand."

I believe this government cannot endure, permanently half slave and half free.

I do not expect the Union to be dissolved - I do not expect the house to fall - but I do expect it will cease to be divided.

It will become all one thing, or all the other.

So, to answer your question, it already HAS applied and we are living with the result: the Union still stands... indivisible... and will still stand that way. What is going on now is nothing compared to what was going on in the mid-19th Century.

I hate everyone & anyone who thinks this is a good way to settle petty arguments & opinion.

Part One:

The divide is stupid, we should come together on common ground & common interest. We are American, just by being American there should be no fighting between each other.

It is uncalled for and letting personal grievance get in the way is absurd.

I don't want to hear "they do __" or "they do__". Cut the bullshit, compromise & come together on the basis of American.

Part Two:

Every time someone makes that bullshit, they mainly want to push the needle towards it so they can 'settle disputes' with violence.

No one is going to throw away television, steady job, spouse & children, yummy food, and leisure all for politics. That would happen on day one of a Civil War, this isn't North V. South, it would be neighbor vs neighbor and no one would know whose side they are on. It would be a massacre all for politics which is a waste.

Anyone who disagrees, would put their friends, loved ones, spouse, and children on the chopping block for personal grievance.

There is no Civil War and will not be for better of society. Get over your personal feuds and bullshit, you are allowed to criticize the Administration and don’t take attacks on the Administration as an attack on your person because it isn’t! Grow some skin!

US has 34 Trillion (34 and 12 zeros) debt that rises 1 Trillion USD every 100 days. US taxpayers have to pay 1 Trillion USD annually just to operate payback and interests of this astronomical debt. In comparison US military budget for 2024 was 841 Billion (0,841 Trillion USD)

America is a union of 50 states not a single whole. We have been forced by a lawless federal goverment to compromise on far more issues than we should. As a result of a conspiracy of federal politicians not to check each other and a fundamental flaws that prevent anyone else with an interest to.

If we can restore the original Constitution the union will work, without that constitution, we are just going to keep fighting each-other and we would be better off as a collection of smaller states reforming into a looser confederate or EU type relationship.

This will also make it more plausible to deal with neighbors as equals rather then simply exploiting and dominating them as our leaders control far more than 2/3ths of the economic and demographic power.

If we restore the federal constitution which will require the recreating of enforceable checks on federal power. That would be idea because the Federal Constiution is otherwise the best document ever written.

The USA js a melting pot of diverse cultures and beliefs. If it was purely 2 ideologies and a 50 / 50 split on all issues that could lead to a civil war. However the freedoms granted by the constitution and fought for by former and current people who serve the nation allow for a strong nation and increased diverse thought and belief. Therefore each state, county, community and family unit has authentic opinions and lived experiences.

Add all that up and in fact the USA continues to be united and will lead other counties towards freedom and #goals.

Well, USA has always had its political differences. I know you are young, but the current political anger is nothing new. Nixon, Reagan, Clinton and George W. Bush were all hated. There were deep divisions during those time periods too. Things were way worse in the nineteenth century. The Civil War is my evidence for that belief.

Have you seen the film 'Civil War', with Kirsten Dunst? During most of the time I was watching it, I was thinking that the scenario before me on the screen could actually happen. It was convincingly portrayed. It doesn't go into the background though, how things ended up the way they did prior to the start of the story, but I can imagine it was probably something like what we're seeing in the US right now.

It might very well stand for the US. At this point. I think we are headed toward a civil war. The only thing that will avoid it might be if Trump continues to act outrageously along with Vance. He may find himself on the losing end of the 25th amendment. At least that would be a peaceful solution.

I’m not going to pretend I know a lot about politics but Abraham Lincoln was talking about the issue of Slavery in the United States when he said that. Currently in the U. S there is no slavery so at least on the slavery issue that’s an impossible task unless the 13-15th amendments were repealed which is not happening ever
