I agree that in essence, Canada is being bullied. It's excessive. There's better ways to go about it.

If you listen to trump directly, he wants Canada to become part of USA. That is sound, but could be done better. You gotta wonder what is driving the urgency to create such policy badgering by Trump.

Ummmm... because they have contracts with public and private utilities in the US who buy Canadian produced energy and they measure the energy they send to those utilities for billing purposes every day.

Did you think they don't know what they are selling or who is buying it?

They don't know your politics on an individual basis. But the states which would be affected most are all flaming Red States. Ergo mostly MAGA faithful. If you live in one of those states and aren't a reich wing extremist, you can thank your neighbors for taking you down with them as collateral damage.

Canada supplies electricity to NY, Michigan and Illinois. We were selling it at a discounted "friends and family" rate but that was just discontinued and we are now selling at market rate but the NE is hardly maga states. Most of the NE US hearing oil and natural gas comes from Canada but that won't really be affected until next year when the new trade deals kick in and we start shipping our oil and natural gas to China and the EU.

Maine and New Hampshire are Red States. And plagued with poverty and poor education. Massachusetts is blue but oh well. Connecticut and Rhode Island don’t use Canadian electricity. Vermont is semi blue but again, oh well collateral damage.

Likewise rural upstate New York is all red.
