Why do people in Europe get 6 weeks of paid vacation and 10 weeks of maternirty leave but the u. s. dosen't?

Americans have an astonishing tendency to vote against their own interests, lest they would be called "socialists/communists". And they still believe in "the healthy market", solving all problems by itself. Unfortunately, no and no. So getting screwed over by companies as well as employers has been the result for a long time. Case in point - there have been states where even the right to sit at work has been rolled back, which was established ~100 years ago! Meaning that an employee is not allowed to sit during his workday, some especially evil employers have even removed chairs from the break rooms! I could not believe it, when I read about it.

While the US the average worker still thinks if he does simp enough for billionaires he will become one as well. Even though he doesn't even can afford rent unless working two full time jobs.

Actually we don't get a great deal in the UK for maternity leave. You get 39 weeks at 90% of your pay or £184 pw whatever is less. You're allowed 52 weeks off but the amount you get paid drops a lot. Some companies will pay your actual wage but not many. Unless your wealthy or on welfare you can't afford to get pregnant so I guess it's good that abortion is free here.

Holiday wise the average is only around 30 days personal leave plus stuff like Christmas etc on top
