Why is paternity leave not as respected as maternity leave?

At least where I live. I took a leave from my duties to be close to my wife and daughter, and now I got a call from my broker asking me to join her on a flight to the other side of the Mediterranean to meet a potential business contact.

Right, because it's completely normal to tell my wife "Hey, on Monday I'm going in Africa with another woman and will be back in a week max lol".

Hung up on the broker when she insisted.

1) people forget because there are no bodily changes to paternity (maybe weight)

2) if she's calling a cell and not using slack or email, she won't have an Ooo message to remind her

3. An unfortunate amount of men WOULD be willing to hop on that plane so society is still conditioned to ask

4. most men never care about paternity let alone maternity rights until whoops it happens to them and they realize how bat shit it all is. For there to be actual change, society should have been lobbying for rights 5 years ago so you would benefit from them now.

I think honestly you did the right thing. You are going to fulfill your duties as father so it’s honourable of you.
Unfortunately some parts of our society has prevailing patriarchy so there’s the archaic conception of familiar duties only for women.. so the woman has to bear all the weight of the first years of growth of the kids.
