The countermeasures are aimed at industries that employ roughly 7.75 million people across the United States. The bulk of those — 4.48 million — are in counties that voted for Mr. Trump in the last election, compared with 3.26 million jobs in counties that voted for former Vice President Kamala Harris, according to a calculation by The Times that included examining retaliatory tariffs on more than 4,000 product categories.

The jobs that could be hit by retaliation are especially concentrated in pockets of the upper Midwest, South and Southeast, including many rural parts of the country that are responsible for producing agricultural goods. It also includes areas that produce coal, oil, car parts and other manufactured products.

Rural parts of the country are once again at risk from retaliation. Agriculture is a major U. S. export and farmers are politically important to Mr. Trump. And rural counties may have one major employer — like a poultry processing plant — that provides a big share of the county’s jobs, compared with urban or suburban areas that are more diversified.

In an address to Congress earlier this month, Mr. Trump implied that farmers could be hit again, saying there may be “an adjustment period” as he put tariffs in place on foreign products. There may be “a little disturbance,” he said. “We are OK with that. It won’t be much.

Mr. Trump said he had told farmers in his first term to “‘Just bear with me,’ and they did. They did. Probably have to bear with me again,” he said.

Se we are having a tariff on Mexican auto parts and the US Auto Parts companies are going to lay off employees? Is this the same for the steel companies? This makes no sense.
Some specialized products like whiskey and agricultural products might feel some backlash but this will help manufacturing like it did when trump was in his first term. That looks like fake news to me. The only part that has some truth to it is the counties. 85% of the counties in the US voted for President Trump so it only makes sense that if there was layoffs, the majority would be in Trump counties.

Try something called "math": I'm an importer. My profit margin on all my imports after I buy items and sell them to distributors is 50%. I do not work for less. My Mexican exporter's price on my item is $1 USD. There's a 25% tariff, so I say to them " Will you drop your price to me to 75 cents? They say "no". So I pay them the $1, then I pay Trumptard his 25 cents. I then tell my distributors "your cost went from $1.50 to $1.75". They pay it, and they choose to maintain their OWN profit margin by passing the cost on to consumer.

So, what would have cost you twice wholesale, or $3.00, now costs you at least $3.50 and likely $4.00, because the retailer will up the price EVEN MORE and blame it on the tariff's.

Can you wrap your head around this magats, or is it too simple?

Ok Mr "I think I'm a patriot": First of all, I have avoided Home Depot whenever possible in the last four years because they heavily supported the Orange Cheeto and contributed mostly to GOPissants in 2024 campaign, and their stance on immigration/DEI/management sucks. Look's like they want to be able to say to customers "Hey, we're neutral", but that's not going to be good enough for some.

Because tape measures are one of the tools that Stanley assembles in the USA using GLOBAL materials. How do I know this? I can Google competently. For other specific tools, it wouldn't make ANY difference who's brand name is on if they sell at the same price and they're made by the same company.

Stanley is a multi-national global company. They sell all kinds of tools and products that are NOT manufactured in the USA as well, as do MOST global USA owned companies. They have a high ranking on the American Democracy score card. How do I know this? I can Google competently.

Home Depot on the other hand, has a "fail" rating. They also failed MISERABLY in China and no longer a single store there. Any idea why? Hmmm?

These numbers are straight from the governments quarterly jobs report. Also, USA under Biden had around 4% unemployment, that is basically "Full" employment (you do not want to go much below that for various reasons). The problem USA had was not that there were too many people searching for jobs, but not enough workers to go around to fill all the jobs available.

Deporting millions of illegals does not mean that millions of Americans can now get a job. Rather it means that millions of jobs that is currently being done will no longer get done.
