If you're traveling to "hostile territory" do you prefer to lie about your nationality, or be honest and try to set a good example for your people?

Personally, I'd much rather be honest about my nationality/ethnicity and just show them that we're not all bad. Maybe the only exception is if I could get killed/harmed because of my nationality/ethnicity, but I probably wouldn't visit a place like that to begin with.

I think this is the problem with people who try to fight racism. They scold/go off on racists, which only makes the racist hate them more and reinforces their negative views. When really a better approach would be to just set a positive example for their race.

I remember at my old job, one of our rangers gave a guy a ride to his mother's house, despite dispatch telling him he has a history of being hostile towards law enforcement. The ranger wanted to show the guy that not all law enforcement officers are bad.

Though maybe it doesn't work with certain kinds of people/situations.
