Would you ever do a hunger strike?

I just did a six days hunger strike against the provincial government - me and seven other mayors/local representatives - in protest for the government wanting to put "inspectors" over local administrations, and at the same time suspending salaries for prefects and secretaries.

I brought my chair and sat on the steps day and night and I was the one who lasted the most. Protest was successful because the government wants to put the matter of inspectors up for discussion, although I have lost 8kg and spent today at the hospital, I am feeling well and results are okay overall.

Only thing my wife was upset about how long I dragged it out (she thought it was a one day thing) while mother mocked me saying I used to not eat all the time when I was little as a tantrum, and now I am doing it in politics too.

Would I personally go on a hunger strike?
Depends.

So, in school I learned about the Women’s Rights Movement and I believe it was Alice Paul who was imprisoned then staged a Hunger Strike which sparked backlash in the newspapers. President Wilson finally gave in, allowing for Suffrage to move forward and led to Women getting the Right To Vote ! (very basic summary, I advise people to look into it and learn the nation’s history of The Suffrage Movement because it is truly enlightening of an experience about the history of our country)

If it were for men’s right to vote (alternate universe), yeah I’d go on Hunger Strike. I’d take one for the team.

As a strike, I doubt I will ever be in a position where I would need that. But I hungered for three days once as sort of an experiment. It was certainly doable, but I really felt weak.

I did fasting for health / vanity reasons so ik I can do it and yes I would do it if I thought it would draw attention to an issue but history shows it's not. There's better passive resistance choices.

It was a success instead, I won't get audited and probably the whole proposal of inspectors controlling us local functionaries will be shelved
