If you are someone who left their country of origin to another for work would you ever want to go back to your country of origin at some point?

When you leave your country of origin, it takes a while to settle in and adapt to your new country of residence. I went through a stage where I would call my country of origin 'home' and my new destination 'home' as well. It wasn't very clear where I actually belonged. Maybe it took me a year to fully switch over.

An ex-pat will always be regarded as such. I wasn't born in the country I reside in now and can't truly claim I belong here, not like someone who was born and raised here. The same goes for my country of origin: having moved away 20+ years now, fellow nationals argue I've lost touch with recent events.

I don't think I'll ever go back. It was a conscious step and I always try to be consistent with my own decisions.

Maybe. But at my age "ever" is not nearly as long as someone your age.

I have only lived in the US, but I have lived in 10 states. I did end up moving back to my home state, and will probably stay there. My parents were getting old and I knew they would not be around forever. It really bothered me that they would die while I was living far away. It bothered me even more knowing they could die when I hadn't seen them in a couple of years. That was a factor in moving back "home". I know a lot of other people who did the same as their parents aged.

Now that my parents are gone, I have fewer ties here. That doesn't mean no ties at all, but fewer. If my parents were already gone before I moved here, I might not have done it.

Recently there has been a very small possibility of moving to the opposite side of the world. If I did that and liked it, I could see staying there long term, maybe indefinitely.

Something I know from much moving around. Everything changes when you move. You see things differently. Things you thought were important turn out not to be. Things that you thought were unimportant turn out to be important.

Also, you can NEVER know what it's like living somewhere until you actually live there, or at least spend a substantial amount of time there.

hmm... both are my countries, and I live/work right at the border...

technically, I did originate in Texas... but my plan is to move further North into the USA, probably... or perhaps further South, up in the mountains of Mexico

I am an have moved twice and about to do a 3rd move. Would I move to my home country? My salary would be a bit more, living standards about the same and working conditions would be similar. However I would still probably not want to move back there for the lifestyles I have had, experiences and people I have met as well as cultures I have lived in have been more rewarding that just work.

So No I like living away from my home country in spite of the numerical benefits from returning.

but after careful consideration I decided to visit more places around the world... so I'm not coming back :D

Many Filipinos do that when they reach retirement age. They get their Social Security delivered to an international bank and then tap into it when they get back home.

My parents didn't leave for work, they just left.

Maybe to visit, but not to live. Especially if you've been gone for many years, it surely will no longer be the same country you left
