Lmao, it’s wild. It’s difficult to even have conversations about anything anymore because they come at you with what they WANT the facts to be, not what the facts ARE.

We live in a post-facts world now, and it’s really crazy to observe. How much of these people are lying vs just being tragically misinformed, I’m not quite sure. I feel like on some level they have to KNOW they’re wrong, especially on social stuff, but they just don’t care, and the goal is instead to make you believe they hold these views for some other reason than ignorance and/or bigotry, to take the heat off them, and they can walk away deluding themselves into thinking they have the moral high ground.

I was arguing with my dad this morning about stuff, who is out on Trump just based of his handling of Ukraine and looking like he’s willing to capitulate to Putin, one of our rare agreements. But he’s just one of these “minorities love to play the victim, when the conservative white man is the REAL victim.” Which is an absolutely WILD assessment to make if you live in America and aren’t blind.

Somehow the conversation turned to word policing, and I guess he’s mad Black folks can say the N-word and we can’t🙄🤦‍♂️ My 93 year old dad, lmao. I’m a huge hip hop guy, that shit actually affects me in terms of singing along to my favorite music, lmfao, but I’m not picking that hill to die on. And in challenging him, he acts like it’s just some arbitrary word they picked, just to tell everyone else we can’t say it. So the obvious follow-up is “ok, but…. surely you understand the history of the word, and white people’s relationship to it…. you REALLY don’t get why a lot of folks who are comfortable using it themselves still don’t want white or just non-Black people saying it to them? Like REALLY? This needs to be explained to you?”

Basically, anything that kind of has any discriminatory energy, he wants to dismiss it as not a big deal or non-existent. I try to attack him on stuff too. “The opposite of this is to allow for discrimination vs certain people. Pray tell…what is your argument FOR discrimination?” And there’s never an answer. It’s always a pivot, “well, what about what the Democrats did?” about some other lie he’s been convinced of. Like I think he thinks there are like 20 million undocumented people here just voting in elections left and right. Like think for even three seconds and you’ll realize what a stupid claim that is to make. But Jesse Watters said it, so it must be true🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

I don’t know how we fact-check on here though. It requires mods to care, and with all due respect to the mods and as a former mod myself, we’re just a bunch of random assholes anyway. The site isn’t even American-owned, so I don’t think ownership would care. It’s really just on us to self-police it and challenge it. We’ll be blue in the face if we hold our breath for the “you’re right, I was wrong” or the “you got me, I’m lying” moment from these Muppets, but when you get that lack of response to requests for actual proof, or they respond with more bullshit, you just know you won, and take the silent W, haha

1.) Some of them are truly imbeciles. They pick up propaganda in echo chambers and repeat it. They don't even know they are spreading lies. They've never fact checked anything in their lives.

2.) Some are just assholes who gleefully flood every online conversation with lies to disrupt discussions and prevent others from pointing out their lies. This is a major training technique for Reich Wing cultists.

3.) Some of them are the propagandists with a political agenda. They are working for the Heritage Foundation, the John Birch Society, ALEC, the Klan, White Nazi groups, MAGA, etc.

4.) Some of them are just dysfunctional personalities who can never admit they are wrong. They throw out ridiculous garbage rather than admit they either don't know what they are talking about or they have using lies in their arguments.

If people come here looking for total truth you have come to the wrong place. Maybe Quora would be a better pick. But that's just my humble opinion. I'm surprised there has not been drag-out fights in the Politics category. I don't think anyone comes to G@G for the news anyway. We go to the many news services like ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, BBE, and a score of others. If you see all of these saying the same thing, then you get the opinion that it really happened.

Asking for proof is not lying. There is so much fake news and exaggerated news today that it's important to be able to back up, with verifiable sources, some of the claims made here. I fully support those of us who ask for that proof when the claim seems questionable.
