Is there any truth to President Trump's new proposed annexations?

There is talk of the Trump administration annexing the countries of Guyana and Suriname. They say there are several reasons for this. One reason is the strategic location of those countries; our national security and also to have a physical presence in South America. Another is for those regions natural resources, which include oil, gold, diamonds, aluminum bauxite, commercial fishing and agricultural products.

The population of those two regions combined is about that of West Virginia and the combined area is about that of Montana. Both of these countries were once possessions of the Netherlands and are independent nations now; unlike French Guiana which is a Department of France and is not being considered. The populations of both regions are very diverse and not of one particular ancestry. They are not Banana Republics and have operated as parliamentary or presidential republics.

It is very likely that President Trump can make them an attractive offer. We can give them protection, particularly from Venezuela, and the benefits of the United States, in exchange for valuable natural resources. With Venezuela recently projecting a more aggressive attitude, both regions are protected and our military presence will blunt Venezuela and make them more accessible for US Military forces if that becomes necessary.

The United States has never been a "colonizing" state following its founding by Western European immigrants except incidental to the Spanish American war. But what with talk of Greenland and Canada, this may be our time. I think it's a great idea.

This is just colonization plain and simple. Trump wants to do this because he wants to be remembered as the president that added land to America or something. Similarly stupid. You can expect a lot of trouble and a hell of a lot of pushback from the people that live in these countries if he tries it. I hope he is smart enough not to try it or if he isn't, which is more likely, that his advisors are smart enough to keep him from trying it. If all else fails, I hope the military refuses to follow any illegal orders he gives them in this regard.

in my opinion he is a typical rich CEO now has presidential powers but still acts like a CEO. Says things and no ever tells him it's a bad idea. All his life people have been saying great idea boss. It a terminal trap and like many CEO sometimes they have to be given their golden parachute and let go.

I just want to know one thing. Exactly how does Trump plan on buying/developing these countries? Out of whose ass is he pulling this money from? I thought he was going to lower taxes, not raise them, which is what he will have to do if he wants to achieve all these grand ideas of Greenland, fixing up Gaza and now this?
