Veterans and Current Military, can you lead me to a website to get a legal question answered?

A friend of mine is a police officer and she is married to an active duty soldier. They want to live on base, but as a police officer she has her duty weapons and department policy requires her service weapons to be with her when she is in uniform, even if off the clock in route to work. I know, generally, civilians cannot carry on base. I also know police officers can when on official duties, but what about when they are at home on base?

Even the legal team of the base is stumped on this one.

Got an update. The provost marshal basically has to decide case by case if a civilian cop can have their weapon on base and how it needs to be stored.

Also, apparently most base commanders have no problem with this as long as the police department submits proof of employment.

HOWEVER, the weapons have to be locked away when the officer is not in uniform. Even in uniform, the officer has to go straight from home to off-post and straight from the gates to back home.

Just doing some research it appears that a LEOSA credential, plus a few other hurdles, might let you carry while on base as a LEO, but this might also be dependent on the base you are trying to get on. Some facilities will still be off limits for carrying such as medical facilities.

Unfortunately, this might be dated information, but considering this administration we are under, I'd still say you'd be safe. This is some of what I found

Very interesting question. I’m not a lawyer…at all…but by my logic, if the legal people on the base do not know, then that means there is no clear rule against this. Therefore, there is very little chance of her getting in trouble if she does carry her weapon while on the base.
