Since I was an abused child, from my perspective it's sort of or is mental illness in my opinion. My Mom is extremely accusatory out of paranoia, and will basically make shit up to dish out the punishments. Places her need for alcohol, drugs, cigarettes, and whatever the fuck else over the needs of anyone else which included my 2 sisters and I, that all have different Dads. She collected the welfare, the child support, and we never got clothes or food. Child protective services took us away and we were taken eventually into foster care.

We got used like slaves on a farm... cool little child labor scheme I suppose, but at least they fed us... just really strict, isolating, and it would've been okay but there was this mentally retarded kid there that the woman seem to have as her favorite and he would make our lives as well as the other foster kid's lives a living hell. We finally got given back to our Mom. My sister did some crime, went to Juvenile hall and I ran away. My 16th birthday was stepping onto a bus and about 16 hours later I was in Hollywood California. The rest of my life was my fault.

I digressed, but I'll say emotionally, my Mom is still a raging narcissistic 13 year old girl in her head. The main reason I view crying like a baby and pure wrathful anger as the same exact thing... a lack of emotional control. Couple that with her absurd paranoia, constant shit talking, and her grandiose ideas of herself, and it's basically mental illness in my book.

I had an abusive alcoholic father and a mother that was bipolar. I had no idea how bad the day would be when I got up in the morning.
I grew up real fast and learned how defend myself before I was 7 .
