Why is America bad at soccer?

America is not bad at soccer. The US women's team is almost always ranked #1 or 2 in the world. The US men's team doesn't fo that well. Soccer in the US is relatively new, becoming popular in only the last 40-50 years, with other sports like baseball, American football, basketball and ice hi key more popular. In co pardon, soccer (football) is the number 1 sport in most of the world. It takes time to develop soccer players.

Many of our best athletes prefer basketball, baseball, football, tennis, boxing... etc.

Football/Soccer isn't everyone's' favorite so we don't get the most people playing that or always the best of the best.

If soccer was everyone's favorite sport we'd probably be better at it.

Are they? They seem to do quite well in the men's world cup, espicially when compared to other teams like England who have players that make more pet year than the entire US team. Hasn't the women's soccer team won the world cup. America seems to do very well in most sports.

The USWNT definitely isn't bad a soccer.  They are currently the #1 ranked team in women's soccer.  They've been World Cup Champions 4 times.  They've been Olympic Champions 5 times.

it wasn't that popular, so a lot of kids didn't grow up playing it.
Something about kicking a small ball into a net the size of a 2-car garage door just isn't all that exciting.
plus, if they get so much as a grass stain on their shorts they lay on the ground and cry like someone cut their balls off.

This is because Major League Soccer has a salary cap of five million dollars, which does not incentivize new talents to dedicate themselves to soccer but rather to other types of sports. For comparison, Erling Haaland's salary is 20 million dollars.

Europe pays better for the sport, so most American soccer players that want to play professionally play in Europe. It's the same reason foreign basketball players move to America.

Kids did not grow up playing soccer. That may change because now there are kids soccer leagues in the US. There was no ever any US hockey players until the 1980s because there were no youth hockey leagues until the 70s..

Soccer was invented just after the American revolution so there was a bit of a chip on everyone's shoulder so sports wasn't shared.

Because nobody in the US cares about soccer, all of our best athletes are playing in the NFL, NBA, MLB and the NHL.
