I remember watching Erling Haaland sky a shot high and wide, and the commentator said, “Great technique.” Seriously? How can missing the target completely be considered great technique? In any other sport, that would be called what it is: a terrible attempt. Imagine a basketball player missing the rim entirely and the commentator calling it “excellent form.” It wouldn’t happen.
What annoys me most is how quickly everyone forgets the endless screw-ups. A striker can mess up ten clear chances, but as soon as they score one nice goal, it’s suddenly treated like they’re a genius. That one goal gets replayed to death, while the constant misses are swept under the rug. It’s delusional.
