I grew up in New York State, though I no longer live there. New York State, in some ways, is like Florida, with its Democratic and Republican areas.

The New York City area, which accounts for more than half of the state's population, is overwhelmingly Blue-Democratic. Long Island is Purple-a mix of the two parties. Upstate New York (anything north of the Geirge Washington Bridge) is Red-Republican, except for some cities like Buffalo.

In the past, New York has been a Republican state, and could be again. Nelson Rockefeller was Republican and the longest-serving governor of the state. More recently, George Pataki was the Republican governor in the 1990s and 2000s.

New York along with California Oregon Washington and Illinois will be the last ones to convert. Not to forget Massachusetts.
