Being conscripted into military service, be it into the proper military, militia or otherwise, is basically a question of public support for the effort. If I agreed with it then yes I would go to great lengths for my country such as being put in the situation of Ukraine. Otherwise I would resist doing my "civic duty" with varying degree of enthusiasm depending on the situation.

Not all of them are seeking asylum. Migrating to a new country for "better opportunity" does not equate to asylum. Taking advantage of our resources and overwhelming our culture, communities, public safety, and hospitals is unacceptable. I shouldn't have to go without to accommodate an illegal alien. There are disabled American CITIZENS, some veterans, that are homeless or barely surviving. With the amount of funds given to illegal aliens, we could have solved homelessness many times over.

The Federal government was not meant to lean on for most of our problems and affairs. The power resides in the states. Read the 10th Amendment of the US Constitution. Power that is not given to the federal government nor prohibited to the States is given to the States. We never needed a federal education department to oversee how states conduct their own education. We definitely did not need the federal government to be in the business of handing out loans. We did not need the federal government involved in the affairs and enforcement of individual citizens. Most of all, downsizing federal government where possible and handing the responsibility and power back to the States is what's constitutionally sound.
Then again, I never want to hear you use veterans and homelessness as an argument as to why we can't have people seeking asylum here. Do you want everything left to the states? Fine. We can blame your local elected officials for neglecting them and in fact they would be unable to anyway as your red states regularly take taxes from blue states when everything the federal government hands out comes through. Those would go away and each state could not only keep their money but no longer support states that are 40th and below in education.
Luckily your state only falls in at 31st which is still below average. So your people are just moderately stupid and incapable of caring for those veterans.
And you know what? I have been taking problems to my state legislators. My argument still stands that the federal government is much larger than it needs to be. Many issues can be worked out at the state level and with interstate compact agreements. We have a huge mess now that is stress-inducing and difficult to solve when the mess should have never grew this large in the first place.
The powers of the Federal government, constitutionally, is actually limited. The emphasis was always meant to be for the States. Think of the US as a compact/association of member states rather than a collection of subdivisions ultimately ruled by a higher authority.
