I’ve met quite a few men like that in the philosophy circles, convinced that their ideas are not only superior but the only answer to society. A lot of the time they’re just woefully insecure about something else in their life: their bodies, their lack of sexual prowess, their lack of a “good” job, etc. and then they focus so heavily on their intellect that they don’t realize they’re examples of the Dunning-Kruger effect. Their arrogance immediately invalidates any of their claims of intellectual superiority and their egos are so incredibly fragile that they refuse to acknowledge it.

Both. You can see it on this site. People believe that because they think something is true that it is even if you provide evidence that it’s not.
