Take JFK & Jackie. He cheated on her all the time. In one case he was was screwing her sister in the next room of her mother's house while they were dating, Jackie just accepted it. Jackie accepted it because she was a gold digger and JFK was a wealthy socialite, war hero, politician heading to the white house. Jackie desired fame, money and validation more than anything. She had her own affairs. Jackie was pretty, intelligent and well educated. Who do you think she married next?
In the elites world affairs are generally acceptable as long as it's discreet and kept out of the papers and generally in following the same way as the British elites only after the couple in question have their first two or three kids.
Hillary accepted it because it was normal in her circles. When it came out she could have left him but that would mean not being the first lady anymore and ending her own political ambitions of political office such as senator, governer, secretary of state and even president. As first lady Hillary weilded a lot of power, probably more than any other first lady. Bill was president and Al Gore was vice president but in reality, Hillary was more vice president than Al Gore was.

The point about jfk screwing Jackie's sister in the next room was that Jackie knew all about it and they were both in competition for JFK. Jackie and her sister competed for a lot of men. Jackie was proposed to by quite a few men, and every time rejected them at the behest of her mother because they were too poor or going nowhere. She wanted to climb socially.
