However, only 17% of conservatives would consider buying an EV. 53% of liberals and 31% of those who identify as "middle-of-the-road" surveyed are now  less likely  to consider a Tesla for their next vehicle. ROFL, one of the defining characteristics of the conservative brain is unilateral resistance to any change. No, the MAGA-tards are not going to embrace anyone's EV until all internal combustion engines become nearly extinct.

Elon Musk has just squandered any shred of goodwill that Tesla built over the last 22 years with the people who would buy an EV. And at this point they have plenty of alternatives from traditional auto manufacturers who haven't gutted their own brands playing political theater for some Reich Wing abstract concept most people don't care about.

To top it off, Tesla has been stupidly over valued for years. It became a cult of personality built around Elon Musk. Well now most people despise Elon Musk and Tesla has lost $800 billion in value since Dec 2024. The love affair is well and truly ended. That stock price is never gonna recover. That means a whole nuther group of people hate Elon Musk, Tesla shareholders.

My guess is that Elon Musk is a butthurt trust fund baby with neither the experience nor the personality to lead anything other than a growth phase darling of a company. He will make all the wrong decisions based on emotion when Tesla starts to flounder. He'll sell it off to be rid of it when the going gets tough and some traditional automaker will scoop up the intellectual property, the technology and the assets at a bargain price to gain instant market share.

Tesla has become a toxic brand internationally. If their sale recover it will take years. There are cheaper comparable EVs out there now for consumers to choose from now so in the short term Tesla is in trouble... long term is more difficult to say. But their reputation will never be the same.

I don't think it's about brand loyalty with either progressives or conservatives. Even for people who have brand loyalty for any product, it only goes so far. It won't take much to abandon a brand.

Liberals used to love Tesla because it was EV. Realistically there is no reason for that to change. So they don't like Musk. So what? What's he got to do with it? They mistakenly think Tesla is Musk's company, so they boycott Tesla and attack it. Musk is just an employee - a very highly paid employee, but still an employee. He was hired and can be fired like any other employee.

Tesla is owned by normal people, including large numbers of people in the lowest income brackets. Boycotting and attacking Tesla makes no sense. So is EV good for the environment or not? If someone says yes, then will they attack the environment, just so they can get at Musk?

On the conservative side, I've known several very conservative people (much more conservative than me) who gave EV an honest look when they bought a car. After really looking into it, they decided against it. It didn't make sense for them. However, those same conservatives have told me multiple times that I would be a good candidate for EV. They aren't against it. It was just not the best choice for many reasons. Although having said that, the very first person I knew who bought an EV (Prius) was very conservative. That was one of the first ones on the road.

Not once have I met a conservative who was against EV. They simply look at it from a practical point of view. They would have no problems embracing it if it becomes more practical. The tech is growing, and the support network like charging stations are growing. But at this point it just doesn't serve their needs.

The thing about ‘brand loyalty’ is, that is something I would subscribe to when I was a young kid… Now being an adult, it is hard to not look at other options. I’m always comparing and finding a system that works for me.

About ‘EVs’, Republicans and Conservatives have been fed by their own media & echo chamber influencers that ‘climate initiatives’, ‘preserving and funding natural park service’, and ‘not tearing down the Amazon’ is 1. a waste of taxpayer dollars, 2. a total scam that doesn’t exist and 3. not our fault, the next generation will fix it. Can’t help that. They aren’t going to buy an EV, not even to stick it to the left & own The Libs because they have big truck from Obama to do that for them.

Progressives are opening their eyes to data collecting, forced automatic updates that make the user experience worse, and anti-competition / anti-consumer pushes from these Big Tech Giants and are looking for ways out of it regardless of a company’s agenda however will probably keep using the same product till the day they die since they don’t have backbone as much as they could have.
Conservatives are rigid against the idea of EVs, change, environmental awareness, and wanting companies to be held accountable unless they don’t agree with their views & values.

We all need to try to be the best version of ourselves and rise above, united on this country’s founding principles. If we continue to get at eachother’s throats nothing will get done in a good productive manner. Will just be a big tug of war of nothing as everything goes to shit. Thank you.

Conservatives are in the camp that climate change is BS in the regards of the dooms day portion of climate change, they believe the climate has always changed and it always will, and the slow warming of the earth is not going to cause any catastrophic disasters.

This belief comes from history, a history of a warm earth and high CO2 actually causes life the thrive on this planet, also a history of all the failures of dooms day predictions from all the climate activists. (You want a good laugh there are sites of all the failed predictions going back to the 70s)

Liberals on the other hand say they care about Climate Change, but it turns out they don't give a shit either, they just want to be perceived they care.

If they actually cared and actually thought the world was going to end due to climate change then they wouldn't attack the worlds largest EV manufacturer, the dislike of Elons politics is not more important then the end of the world. So they know the "catastrophic" part of climate change is also just BS..

Teslas were never meant to appeal to the people who actually use trucks to do hard jobs so they could never get that market. It's for people with lots of cash who want others to know they have cash and that they are "special" and "concerned" about the environment. Just like if I showed you a $5k vacuum cleaner that looks like an octopus or a $100 one that does the same job and looks like every other vacuum cleaner. In most cases what you pick is about who you want others to think you are. In rare cases people pick without caring what others think.

I also think Tesla only did well in the first place because Musk is a marketing and business genius and personally pushed it. Without him they have nothing so not looking good for Tesla -- I haven't kept up on the latest news of the past few days tho. I heard he was making some big announcement.

Elon has not changed the design of his cars in 3 or 4 years. I think he has figured out that EVs are a dead horse. President Trump has rescinded the EV mandate and will let consumers choose what kind of vehicle they will drive.

Within a few years EVs will be made on a very limited basis

Elon Musk will be going to Mars by then.

Conservatives who were “borderline” about buying EVs are now more likely to be interested. If I had the money I would definitely look into getting a new Tesla.

Also even though progressives generally hate Elon Musk I know most of them wouldn’t consider doing something as stupid as vandalizing Teslas and aggressively harassing Tesla owners.

But what I would like to know is why aren’t moderate progressives calling out the vandalism bullsh*t? Seriously, why? Instead you got Tim Walz gloating about how it’s “wonderful” that the Tesla stock is dropping.

Ultimately EVs have failed. There are lots of them all over the country full of EVs that can't be sold. 4th generation dealerships who sold ford or GM are now closing down and opening as independent used car dealerships because Ford or GM was forcing them to take EVs which they had to buy but couldn't sell. Ultimately EVs were really only sold to celebrities, woke politicians and champagne socialists like AOC or Alysa Milano, Mark Ruffalo, Stephen colbert, Don Lemon etc but far outside the price range of most people and EVs are not something you can sell 2nd hand either and the cost of getting them scrapped is huge. Then there's the EV fires or the fact that when the break down they need a recovery truck and can't be moved. They need charging always and have no range.
