Because in many cases a step mom and her kids are being taken care of financially by a the stepdad. She's making out like a bandit and being lifted out of poverty in many cases. A stepdad is inheriting both the day to day chores of raising another man's kids plus all the financial burden of those kids. That's a huge difference in the commitment men and women are taking on when they decide to be a step parent.

Actually men don’t just bond with mothers, they’re biologically built to bond with and care for their children too. When fathers are actively involved, their bodies respond by increasing hormones like oxytocin and prolactin, just like mothers do. It’s actually really sweet how nature made sure both parents are wired to nurture. Nothing much beats watching a man bonding with his kids.
