Why are men and women so quick to become step parents but not quick to become an actual parent?

For example I have a friend who is 29 male, and he mentioned the other day that he is “ready to be someone’s step daddy.” And I hear phrases like this all of the time. However, for a woman like me who does not have children yet.. and I’ve been in a committed relationship for 2 years now.. my boyfriend won’t even consider having a child right now. He has dated women in the past who have children and that seemed fine to him. So, why is it so different when it’s your child? You’re still acting as a parent. I guess I just don’t understand why men are so okay with being with single mothers but aren’t okay with creating their own family?

Because as u have just shows your boyfriend was with someone that had a kid they broke up and he is not in that kids life it would be different if he had decided to have a kid with her its a much bigger responsibility having a kid over getting with someone that has a kid

Tough question! I suspect many young men are nervous about that responsibility. When it’s not your child, an immature individual can push the responsibility on the biological parent. When it’s your child, there’s no walking away even if you separate or divorce, in most cases.
I’m married and we have children, and sometimes we both need reminders to step up as parents, but it’s never questioned.

Less responsibility, less commitment. Also, I wouldn’t say people are “so eager”, but it’s a role they’re ready and willing to accept for the right person. Like you and your friend are almost 30, and usually mid to late 20s, a lot of potential partners have kids. It seems very rare to meet someone in that age range who isn’t a parent.

Because being a step parent doesn't come with child support if the relationship doesn't work out.. Most women alienate the father and push for sole custody for that reason.. Child support..

I would rather be a father to an already created person, than be the person who is partly responsible for creating a new person, because I believe having children is immoral
