Should Trump give the green light for the Israelis to just cut the head of the snake off?

And what do you think that would achieve?
Let's say Israel get the hostages back - do you really think they're going to stop there? Of course not. This was never about hostages. October 7th was just a convenient excuse. Israel won't stop attacking Gaza until they've invaded and occupied it.
Or let's say the leader of Hamas is assassinated - do you think Palestinians will just surrender, and allow Israel to occupy Palestine? Of course not. It's their homeland. The October 7th attacks, and the very existence of Hamas, are a direct result of decades of aggression from Israel. If you kill one leader, another will emerge, and another, and another...
Or let's say Israel is somehow able to succssfully invade and occupy Gaza (with the help of the US) - do you think they're going to stop there? Again, of course not. Obviously, the West Bank would be next after Gaza, but that wouldn't be the end of it.
Netanyahu and others like him want a "Greater Israel", which means that after Palestine, they'll turn their attention elsewhere. Lebanon will be next - Israel already launched an invasion there last year. Then Syria - again, when the Assad regime fell, the first thing Israel did was occupy the Golan Heights. And then it will be Jordan, and large chunks of Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
Israel is just going to keep aggressively trying to expand, and you Americans are going to have to keep on paying to support them, because the pro-Israel lobby controls US foreign policy. And obviously it won't be quick - it will be bit by bit, and you're going to be paying for decades to come (probably indefinitely).
Don't you remember when Egypt and Syria both sneak attacked Israel? And they just didn't do it once, they did it twice. Maybe Israel feels that if they take over Syria, and maybe Egypt, then it won't happen again?
@NoDecision You mean the Yom Kippur War in 1973, when they tried to reclaim territory that Israel had taken from them during the Six-Day War in 1967?
Obviously the whole thing is a mess, but Israel is by far the most aggressive, destabilizing force in the region (moreso than Iran).
Don't you recall how much land Mexico lost to the US from the Mexican/American War? Or anyone else who lost land during a war for that matter. Look how much land Germany got during the war, and lost when it lost the war. It is just things that happen in wars. Even now China wants Taiwan. Why is it right for one and not another?
@OldBlue I see... You mean Iran.
So, if you're talking about assassinating Iran's leader, that doesn't change anything - he just gets replaced with someone else who acts in exactly the same way. There might be a few more terrorist attacks on US soil, but that's about it.
If you're talking about invading Iran to force a regime change, then you only have to look at Iraq and Afghanistan (and Syria, Libya, etc) to see why that would be a bad idea. It would cost trillions of dollars, and the lives of thousands of US servicemen and women, while increasing the threat of terrorism on US soil.
And for what? What does the US even stand to gain by supporting Israel?
It's the only democracy in the region, which is fine, except that it doesn't act like one - none of the usual assumptions made about democracies (that they're stable, and don't invade their neighbours, or commit genocide or other atrocities, etc) apply to Israel.
They share intelligence with the US, to keep Americans safe from terrorism - but why is the US a target for terrorism to begin with? Because they support Israel.
Clearly you read one article, and failed to realize that to "cut the head off the snake" does not specifically refer to Iran, but is a well-known and centuries-old idiom, meaning to remove an enemy's leadership to shorten a war and reduce casualties on both sides. If you'd used it correctly, you'd be referring to the leader of Hamas, since that's who Israel is at war with (as you correctly identified, Iran is just a proxy, the same as the US is Israel's proxy).
Don't use big words and fancy phrases if you don't know what they mean.
When it comes to Muslim terrorist groups, it's basically never enough to just cut heads off snakes, and if your "experts" are talking about either the Qatari or Iranian governments who support and control them, that is definitely not a "one afternoon" operation by any stretch of the imagination.
Israel needs to do whatever it takes to settle this war. While minimizing collateral losses.
Sooner or later. There will be nukes coming out of Iran. That needs to be stopped now!
I say find everyone in Palestine, and kill them until the hostages are released alive. Then, finish the survivors.
Israel does not need our permission. Netanyahu said Iran WILL NOT develop a nuclear weapon. They have the resources to act that out. What do you think Iran's port explosion was about?
It has to. I've only met one person that was born in israel. She's in America now and she told me when regular kids go to school in other parts of the world they bring a lunch, backpack maybe an ipod. When she went to school she had to carry a gas mask along with those other things.
