A psychopath has no self esteem problems. But they also have no conscience, morality, ethics, or empathy. They’re just doing whatever they want totally internally focused. Not exactly a role model

Self esteem and the erosion thereof is not about some self generated ideal that people measure themselves against then proclaim victory.

People will always compare themselves against society’s ideals and other people around them. Normal people care to some extent about validation from other people. But what we can never see completely is those other people’s failures. They don’t tend to make those things public.

That comparison to others is where self doubt creeps in to eat away at self esteem. Fear of failure is part of it too. If I never try, I never have to experience failure. But now I’m a coward. Well that’s not helping my self esteem.

I see what you are getting at but the brain is super powerful... Doubt, anxiety, any negative emotion can cause you to physically mess up the task you are trying to accomplish, you are using your brain to complete these tasks, are you not? It's not just an autopilot mode that you can set and then just wonder off completely and still execute whatever tasks you are doing perfectly, we aren't robots.. If you put someone with the same amount of capabilities in a room, one who has low self esteem and someone with a high self esteem and they are both trying to complete the same task its a higher chance the person with the low self esteem will have more mistakes or issues than the person with a high self esteem overthinking and low energy can cause a lot of problems.

Self esteem and confidence matters. If someone suffers with lower self esteem they often will not take risks to improve in life, often will hold back in social situations where they view others as better than them, might start to feel more depressed and hopeless on a day to day basis.


So it’s not over rated unless taken to the extreme where someone feels cocky and doesn’t have the skills to back of their levels of confidence.

Feelings matter. They can help to motivate us, can help to stay the course when facing hardships.. or negative self esteem can close us off to life and let us give up quickly

Actually very good question & it is part of the reason we like drugs & in more subtle manifestations, wear make up, wear clothes we want to look provocative in anything to get a little rush. Probably more decisions based om good than logical analysis-though it's not everyone willing to think about self-insight much less have the courage to ask and the willingness to hear what this analysis reveals. Don't you wish people would shut the fuck up sometimes?

Nah it matters, with less confidence you will not feel comfortable doing thing that are difficult so you'll have a safe life but you'll restrict yourself.

yeah but confidence is sort of an attitude thing, it has nothing to do with if you actually can or can do the job. but a confident person will not be doubting themselves

Even a confident person may have some self doubt or nerves when attempting to do something new. However they are more likely to take the risk and try than someone with low self esteem who doesn’t value themselves.

Probably because the better you feel about yourself the better you will be with others.
