It seems it started when Trump shocked them by defeating the Crooked Hillary Clinton. Then it was evident that Trump also wanted secure borders. Then it became virtuous to care for the so called "DREAMERS". 😅

I think the big change happened when Texas and Florida started sending refugees over to sanctuary states and cities. They wanted the illegals to come in so badly; they ought to be the ones paying to support them. I remember hearing the liberals squak about how unethical and inhumane it was to send the illegals; seemingly unaware that they were simply experiencing the problems that conservative states had been dealing with because of their well-intentioned empathy for decades.

My take is that the people who strongly supported the tolerant illegal immigration policies simply didn't realize the scope of the problem.
