@oldblu when we dream, we process our experience. it doesn't come out of nothing. we create what we see in dreams. it's not by default an aware process but you can make it aware through training. thats what lucid dreaming is. there's not mystical outside imput. i don't care who coined the term operational software xD i think it nails the function of our mind as an analogy.

@entertained_adult, oysters do have nervous systems. they just don't have a central nervous system that pipes all the sensory imput into a central processing location like a brain cause they lack a brain. so they are operating entirely on systems akin to reflexes which we have too. so i would say a more pragmatic terminology would be that they lack sentience and awareness as they don't have a mind or nervous structure that coud generate that.

i'm not gonna discuss quantum physics. cause neither you nor me understand that well enough to base any arguments in that.

Though i entertained the idea of a 4 square mile oyster pool, completely filled with distilled water with added minerals, 0 heavy metals. Such a size would suffice to provide enough protein for every Canadian all days of the year. Because regardless of spiritual views, shooting animals in the head is not fun, especially if you raised them. Might cost up to a billion to build though, if made of concrete.
