This might sound controversial, but 1 million dollars is not that much money in this day and age. I would probably just invest it quite frankly like I do with the rest of my money. If it was a billion dollars then that would be an amount where you can start play around and spend frivolously.

Divide it up. The first $20k would go for a car trade-in, the next $250k would buy the house I currently share with my friend and eliminate that debt, the next $400k would go to buying my childhood home, the remainder would be split evenly between a retirement account, trust funds for my niece and nephew, and my personal spending money. I wouldn’t quit my job but it would be nice to have.
