It shouldn't. When we privatize, it may seem like there's an increase in efficiency, but there's really an increase in corruption, cutting corners, and caring more about profit over service or purpose.
All you have to do is ask yourself this:
Would you want the US Military to be privatized?
The answer is, of course, "No". And the Founding Fathers knew that when they wrote the US Constitution including its Preamble:
We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
The Founding Fathers understood the dark side of human nature for the most part and realized that some things are a lot more important than profit. So, while the US Military may outsource things like weapons systems, it is fully in control of those weapons.
And, believe it or not, that's the same operational model as the US Postal Service which does outsource quite a bit like airlines and trucks, but it is still in control of it all.
Furthermore, the USPS is the first interface that people have with the Federal Government. It provides critical services than just delivering mail and packages. For instance, this is where you can apply for passports and get tax forms. Postal workers are often the only Federal employees many people see in their real life.
if can regulate it to do what we want it to do (e. g. not screw over those in rural areas), it can work to become more cost effective.
there's always tradeoffs. in this day, it's a question mark whether that should be a govt entity given shifts in society and competitors. It may be beneficial to keep govt as a wedge to control corporate competitors and avoid a monopoly down the road.
Why should the USA continue to sink in debt paying for stuff that maybe... isn't essential right now? Do you really care if you can get a letter in the mail from your girlfriend? The world changed. You don't ride a horse to get to work anymore like grandpa...
and that's the sneak in. they take over because no one cares to realize what is actually going on. it's a global takeover
meh, can always re-take it over if it ends up sucking. we did that with other conglomerates... breaking them up. Im not so sure mail is a government necessity like water... and my water is kinda private.

It drives MAGA crazy that the post office has not yet been privatized so that MAGA scammers can make a fortune off of it illegally. This was why Dejoy was made the postmaster by Trump and had the job of destroying the post office so that Trump could point to it and say it was so bad that private companies would have to take over. That little scheme didn't work out so well and the post office is still in business and still doing what it does. My interactions with the US Post office are minimal but the ones that have occurred have been quite satisfactory.

The Post Office was really created to provide jobs for veterans. I do not think it should be privatized.

can you imagine? a corporation is the one that gets to deliver your mail or not. you can't charge someone to bill you a bill. it's unethical.
