Would you still describe America as a 'melting pot'?

"Melting Pot" is a term that was used to describe Americanization in which immigrants adopt American culture and abandon culture from their home country. Modern terms include "salad bowl" or "mosaic" or "kaleidescope" in which different cultures mix but retain distinction.

I mean I believe America is a melting pot. I mean yeah we still have people that want strictly "white America", however that's slowly if not quickly dying out. For example @Still-alive even though I'm from a small rural country town in deep south Alabama, we have a lot of interracial dating and marriages around here, and we have a lot of biracial/mixed kids. Like I can go to the local Walmart and majority of the time you'll see white men with black women and their kids or white women with black men and their children or Hispanic men with black women and their children or Asian men with black women and their children. And the next town over it's really diverse. We have blacks, whites, Indians, Asians, mixed/biracial individuals. So my home state of Alabama it's progressing. And for some wondering about the grandparents and/or great grandparents, hell I see them at the local Walmart with their biracial/mixed grandbabies/great grandbabies spoiling them rotten and have seen some older people in their 60s or older in interracial relationships now. In the south it's slowly if not more progressing. Yeah you're going to have some racist idiot, but really people don't see color/race anymore around here. So yeah we're a melting pot.

I've heard that the north was more racist than the south, they just like to slide it under the rug. But the south isn't as bad/racist that people make it out to be. I've lived here all my life and yeah like I said beforehand, you'll have a racist idiot but majority are pretty friendly.

As for politics, now with the Trump issue, yes some that voted for Trump do condone his racism. However, the ones I have talked to they said they voted for him due to religious purposes (the south is very conservative aka pro life, pro gun, etc.). But I have ran into some that are racist and voted for Trump.

My family is a melting pot of immigrants from Russia to Germany to Italy to so on, just trying to make it in the American Dream.

A few months ago, I discovered an eye opening educational experience from President Barack Obama who said US V. THEM they used to be THEM until they became US and unless you are Native American, someone brought you here.

You can say diversity hurts the country, you can say hateful rhetoric wishing people ill or harm at trying to get a better life just as your ancestors that came before you wished onto you… Though don’t forget where you came from and the moniker you go by now of American. Proud to be an American and stand up for your fellow man.

Jewish, Hispanic, Catholic, Asian, Chinese, Indian, Mixed, Short, Tall, Polish, Mexican, and so on, all under the umbrella of American. Once you set foot here, you are American as you breathe the same air, bleed the same red blood, and stand with a hand on your heart for the flag. That is truly special. The melting pot is alive and must be kept that way.

At the moment the USA is a melting pot next to a toilet bowl. Our White Trash want to get rid of the melting pot because they feel threatened by it. They'd rather flush the country down the toilet than share it with others.

Yes because it's about the economy and what's good for the American economy and Americans would say the melting pot as you say needs to continue to welcome migrants to expand the never ending American economy - im not American - did I mention economy
