It’s important to remember that we’re in our current mess because right wing media is wholly dishonest and essentially serves as a propaganda machine for the Republican Party, and the biggest plague on America is our epidemic of morons. We are FATALLY stupid in this country.

So seeing through the propaganda unfortunately isn’t a real thing that happens, and that’s why I fear we’re going to end up a cautionary tale in a history book a hundred years from now. Really and truly too stupid to know what’s good for us.

The right wing playbook is well-established. Do unconscionable things to provoke a warranted albeit explosive response, the responders (even though they’re right in principle) get characterized in the news as “crazy, violent lunatics”, the politicians get on TV and lie through their teeth about it, and the objections to the fucked up original behavior are rebranded as a bad thing, and retards who only pay a sliver of attention or come with built-in bad character themselves eat it whole.

President Trump was elected on a platform of securing the border and mass deportations. The public does not agree with the democrats interfering with this.

I think it depends more on what people think, than what is actually happening.

The problem is determining what's true, or not, and what people will believe. Perception is often more important than reality. According to various sources, the situation in LA is both peaceful and a calamity, depending on who's telling it.

Some sources are reporting that the demonstrations have been peaceful, and that the mobilization of the national guard is what sparked problems. Other sources report that things were out of hand prior to the national guard responding.

The reality makes no difference, if people only learn about the situation via misinformation, and most people tend to trust sources that they believe, regardless of whether those sources are telling the whole truth.
