Do you think this conviction should be overturned?

Emily Nutley of Cincinnati with having relatons with a 17 year old. For this, she lost her job, was sentenced to 3 years in prison, 5 years of probation and a lifetime of being registered as a sex offender -- which she has to maintain every 90 days.

Yes, she happen to be the older of the two, but should that really be an issue?

Maybe suspend her sentence and retain her employment? Isn't that beneficial for everyone?

first off imagine if a guy did this... he'd get more than 3 years! The perception of male/female is different.

I turn liberal on issues like this... for benefit of my wallet and society. There is no way around the fact such people are now "ripe" and there is a risk. Its been going on for a long time. Was someone actually hurt in this? No, doubt it. That boy lived his dream and so did she. it's just not appropriate and it can be abuse. It disrupts the school.

I'd end her job as a teacher, have her make public admission, go through therapy to resolve her real issues... possibly put her on the sex registry for a time..., and get her retraining for some other career, so can pay her way. stop wasting my $ on ridiculous crap like this.

@Biricik blah. I'd just fire from working with children, beat with a stick by some nuns, get counseling, she pays the parents some $... and I'm out of it. If she's a hazard to others, determined by therapy and such, then jail.
back when we had zero debt, I don't care so much. we are near $40 trillion in debt. stop wasting my $.
why do you get your jollies putting her in jail for 3 years. what is that going to accomplish and at what expensie?

@Biricik you know how many 17yr old guys dream of passion with one or more of their teachers? What if he was 17yrs 11 months and 30 days old? if someone is a hazard or did substantial harm, lock them up and I'll confess my perception of risk/right/wrong changes based upon male/female perpetrator. of what little I know of this, Im making assumptions of course, I question it.
I saw multiple cases in hs decades ago with <17yr olds. there was no jail /firing/blah blah...
It is wrong for good reason.. disrupts social environment, abuse of power, risk to others, could make offspring, etc..
have you seen the sex pred list... our socity is generating people clamored in shame. That, is a tragedy we are creating.
There are REALLY dangerous people thatneed locked up, those that kidnap, traffic others like pimpts, etc.. those ones lock up... some firing squad.

@Biricik i might be, and I don't know the girls view, but I know of some that do and have, and girls out here say they do or desire. I know a girl slightly over 18 that married her professor. I'm not saying it's right and it isn't my life.
you didn't answer my question... avoidance. so at some magical age after 1 day, everything changes? only in the eyes of the law, which is fine, but doesn't mean I should pay for it.
I could pose more questions, but no point if you are going to just slap labels. you have right to your opinion and I consider opinions, this is mine at the moment.

I still favor paying 3 nuns to discipline her. at $100 each and some therapy. Call that $1000 total. Cheap! unless there's some deeper issue like grooming as you noted, then cheap is fine. if it's a deeper psych issue she may need locked up until her underlying trauma and emotional issues are resolved and she has sufficient boundaries and discipline to function in society. If it's more severe, I'd punish more severe but as judge, I'd look to find and repair the underlying problems, not just punish the surface issues.
what you want to do is punish and label. blech... I can't stand that system.

yea she's screwed up, take her out. send her to India where she can help out all those guys... turn a lemon to lemonaide. but she wasn't selling him as a sex slave and then killing them when they were used up like these others, that's the problem with trafficking/slavery. that's jail/ fire squad.

If the age of consent in Cincinatti is 17, then it shouldn't have even been a trial. Here it's 17, so as soon as he turns 17 it becomes legal.

She was charged with two counts of sexual battery and plead guilty to both charges so this was not comfortable and gentle sex, there was sadism, cruelty, humiliation, force and violence involved and the sex she made him go through was designed to traumatize him and injure him.

Sentence is harsh (too much so), but a 17-year-old is a minor beneath the age of s*xual consent.
