Yes, but we’re long past that time. The governor and the mayors of every major city in California should have been brought up on charges when they stopped protecting their citizens from criminals decades ago. Squatters have rights; homeowners don’t. Violent criminals have rights; law abiding citizens don’t. Homeless drug addicts have rights; property owners don’t. Thieves have rights; business owners don’t. Carjackers have rights; car owners don’t.
I literally watched a man mug an old woman not thirty feet from two San Francisco cops and the cops just watched and let it happen. I walked by dozens of vehicles with signs in their windows reading things like, “Please don’t break my windows. The car is unlocked but you won’t find anything worth stealing. I can’t afford to fix my windows again and my insurance dropped me.”. The first one was funny. By the fourth or fifth, i was getting a clearer picture of exactly what kind of city SF is. On a different day, i actually saw a couple of guys laughing and selectively smashing the windows in cars with signs like that. Multiple cops driving by and doing nothing.

There is no crime enforcement in this state. They WANT lawlessness and have for decades. Unless you are a law abiding gun owner. Then they hunt you down like a rabid dog. When they remove the citizens’ rights to defend themselves, their families and their property and let criminals run amok with impunity, they are establishing rule by fear and reliance on government intervention. You do know the vast majority of L. A. isn't rioting? Well, if you didn't, now you do. LAOD is following the law as protests that are peaceful are legal. They are containing n gathering violence, but since we are not a police state or a comtey thst allows the killing of violent protesters, they have limits. You may disagree and feel that the actions at Kent State were some of the most heroic you've ever studied, most people don't see it that way.

The January 4th protestors are alive because Pelosi denied the deployment of the national guard despite knowing there would be protests and capitol police let the protestors in. That's why you saw protestors wandering around like it was a school trip, even staying within the guide ropes.

The vast majority of protestors are not rioting. The police etc were deployed as is typical for large scale protests (because there's always somebody who's going to take advantage of the chaos or make some shitty decisions in the heat of the moment. I don't support it in the slightest, but it happens, which is why the police show up in the first place)

Point being, no. Normal protocol was in action in California, and I'm under the impression the mayor has imposed even stricter protocols in the certain parts of the city in response to the elevated tensions. The Governor and the Mayor are doing their jobs, though there's a limit to what they even can do before they start infringing on basic constitutional rights.

I honestly think activating the National Guard was a terrible move on Trump's part. A big part of what these people are protesting is the use of police/military types to remove members of the community by force. Bringing in more military to essentially do the same thing is objectively going to make people more upset and likely worsen the situation.

Like think about it, you see friends and family being arrested out of nowhere, you're upset so you try to speak out against it, and then the same people that arrested your friends are now standing in front of you by orders of the people you're fighting against in the first place? How is that supposed to make anything better? How is that supposed to deescalate the situation? If anything it's going to incite more violence and destruction because people are going to feel even more threatened.

And personally, I think that if you're evaluating the behavior of a group, it is important to consider the majority on some level, especially if there is significant variation in behavior. I can't say I'm personally informed enough on the recent history of conservative protest to really have an explicit opinion at the moment on whatever you're referring to there.

Most of the times I've objected to right wing protests it's been on the grounds of what's being protested, which isn't actually an objection to the act of peaceful protest.

@Theodish_Warrior People on the left protest to fight policies they view as unjust, and to support individuals or groups who they observe being persecuted or treated immorally. Entitlement has nothing to do with it. The right may very well "just want their own land" but the right also wants to control the personal freedoms of women and LGBTQ+ individuals, roll back safety regulations designed to protect workers and consumers, tear peaceful people from communities they've spent years becoming a part of an contributing to on the grounds of "legality", remove separation of church and state statutes, and engage in a variety of practices that could have significant negative long term environmental impacts. You may not agree with democratic or left leaning politics but it is blatantly incorrect to depict the right as harmless and removed, and the left as entitled and violent. From the left's perspective, the right is actively attempting to tear apart the constitution and are terrified for their lives and their futures. That's what they're fighting for.

Like I said, you don't have to agree with the perspective, but refusing to acknowledge that there is a perspective at all is willful ignorance, which can only be to your own detriment.
