I won't say sadistic and there are no universals here. For instance, a lot of wealthy people are humane.

That said, a psychological experiment was done by psychologist Paul Piff over a decade ago involving the game Monopoly...

Two players, randomly chosen, were playing but:
1. Player 1 started with 1/2 the money that Player 2 had.
2. Player 1 rolled only 1 die, but Player 2 rolled both dice.
So, in essence, the Player 2 started wealthier than Player 1.

The players were observed on hidden camera and microphone.

What was discovered time after time with different pairs of players was that the wealthier player became more of an asshole over time. In a sense, from the perspective of the game, they were born on 3rd base but thought they hit a triple and began to rag on the other player a bit.

Paul Piff is a social psychologist at the University of California, Berkeley. He studies how wealth — or the lack of wealth — can affect behavior.

His studies include running rigged games of Monopoly, tracking how those who drive expensive cars behave behind the wheel, and even determining that rich people are more likely to take candy from children than the less well-off. He writes, "I have been finding that increased wealth and status in society lead to increased self-focus and, in turn, decreased compassion, altruism, and ethical behavior."

Anyway, there are rich people who are kind, generous, hard-working, moral, and humane and there are others who are not. Likewise, there are poor people who are genuinely in need and who work hard and there are others who are lazy and just want other people and the government to take care of them.
