I've noticed the difference when talking to people from different countries. they remember things about me even though I'm really just a stranger compared to the average American who can barely remember a name of a coworker. I don't think it has as much to do with Internet etc as much as with chaos the mind cannot understand

I did vote Yes because I am old and have seen the changes.

However, for each person, this depends a lot on what you priorities are. For instance, I've been working from home for 5 years. So, my car, which is almost 6 years old now, has only 62k miles on it because I am not commuting to a job. Also, the mere fact that I am using a company provided laptop and that the Internet exists enables me to work from home. 50 years ago, this was practically unimaginable; the only people I can think of who worked from home were novelists or other writers no working in media.

Paying bills online is better too.

BUT, what has happened, primarily over the last 45 years since Reagan became President is that the income gap is becoming untenable as is the national debt. In short, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Some of this is due to technological change, but much of it is due to GOP policies and Democratic incompetence. So, for the vast majority of folks, it is considerably harder than in years past. The big thing that occurred was the downfall of unions from a position of power in the USA. This permitted the income gap to begin and the middle class to die off.

I could go on and on...

But, I'll put it to you like this...

I didn't have kids because I could see this shitshow coming 40+ years ago. I knew the only way to protect my kids from this "world [that] has become inherently more stressful and harder to live in than it was" was to not have them.

Sure, in a way. No, in other ways. For example.

Go back 150 years to 1875. The industrial revolution was underway but it didn't affect a lot of people. Here in the USA we were still basically an agrarian society. We had steel mills and railroads and a few factories. But most people were either working the land or earning a living in service jobs. It was a physically hard life and healthcare was half snake oil and half primitive medicine. But it was simple. Easy to understand. The pace of change was slower and tools were simple and easy for the average person to understand. It was a tough time on our bodies but relatively comfortable for our minds.

Fast forward to 2025 and we are in a post industrial revolution, the information age. We have air conditioning in our homes and cars. We have amazingly advanced medicine down to the molecular level. We have power tools to do the tough work. We own computers that can communicate with other computers anywhere on the planet. We have pocket computers (smart phones) that can answer any question in seconds. We can fly across the USA in 5 hours. But the complexity has increased exponentially. The average person has no idea how a computer, smart phone, air conditioner, car, jet engine, or medicine works. We've had to specialize more and more. And technology has caused a constant increase in the the speed limit on technological change. So our physical lives are a lot easier. But our minds are being pushed harder and harder to keep up with constant change.

And now with the advent of something being marketed as Artificial Intelligence, we can no longer know what is real and what is a lie on a grand scale. We may be reaching the limit of what the human mind and society is capable of coping with.

Let's imagine doctors say cancer has a vaccine tomorrow. Would the world celebrate universally? The human ingenuity pushing beyond limitations unthinkable before like walking on the moon?

We have walked on the moon. We have vaccine controlling the most dangerous aspect of daily life. Yet we piss on and shit on such monuments of how great humanity has come. For every step forward into greater future we do take two steps back.

The better future is at our fingertips it's just we fumble it every step of the way.
