Unfortunately, being street smart usually means learning the hard way. You need to get out there to know and understand what's out there. There are tons of people who will totally rip you off, con you, or take advantage of you in some way. You have to watch out for them.
Being street smart is basically the opposite of being naive.
There is a saying, "Fake it until you make it.". A lot of scumbag people out there will spot a naive innocent person a mile away. So learn to act confident, like you belong. If you look timid, you can become a victim. So even if you aren't confident, fake it.

Books won't do that for you. Going out and interacting with people & things do. Also taking losses will or at least should smarten you up quicker on things too.
