If Trump sends you your $600 tariff rebate check, will you tear it up in protest of the tariffs or cash it?

And I would like to add something for the slow people; importers pay the tariffs not the consumers. The importers can then turn around and charge the consumers, but it's up to them. Right now a lot of businesses are not passing on the tariff to the customers. I guess their strategy is to eat the tariffs themselves in order to better compete with their competitors that are passing tariffs on to the consumers.

Why would I do that when I think tariffs should ultimately pay for the federal government in entirety (i. e. pay for diplomacy, foreign policy, and the national military) and the federal income tax should be eliminated? I want tariffs and I want tax money back. So whatever money is returned to the people, I will gladly accept. While a $600 check wouldn't be a full resolution of my grievance with the federal government, it would be a step in the right direction. That said, while I know federal spending needs to be reduced tariff revenue ultimately should pay for what the federal government aims to accomplish. This means some of that tariff revenue needs to fund agencies and go into reserve accounts to reduce future spending bills so that the deficit doesn't grow uncontrollably. Some of that tariff revenue needs to be used to pay down the federal deficit and maintain interest payments so that less tax money needs to be collect to stay financially solvent as a country until such time as the national deficit is eliminated. Some of that tariff money needs to be used to incentivize local manufacturing and training of a workforce to plan for a future economy that is less defendant on imports. Thus as a result only a portion of the pie can be returned to tax payers at the moment. Our problems need to be managed and fixed over time before we can be truly prosperous. We have to climb out of the hole.

He didn't directly answer my question, but he took it to a deeper level that I didn't want to go to. I just wanted to keep it simple and talk about the checks. You either cash them or you don't. But what I disagreed with him about was paying down the national debt. I can't expect hard work Americans to forgo their $600 check, when we are pissing money away on DEI in Burma. When our Dick had politicians can manage the balance the budget and cut the world off from all the bullshit, then we can talk about reducing the debt.
