Hear me out. While it's true the U. S. has the strongest arsenal, I think STRATIGECALLY, the RUSSIANS are best.

Hear me out. The Americans lost Vietnam. They lost the Cuban revolution. In the Iraq War, they recaptured 5 cities from Al-Qaida only to lose them again. They lost Afghanistan embarassingly. In Syria, they were getting their asses kicked for years. Every Arab country they intervened in is worse off. They won the Iraq-Kuwait war, but didn't finish off Sadam right there and then, which ultimately lead to the second Iraq War, which was a disaster.

While the Russians on the other hand, were mostly responsable for defeating Germany in WWII. Russia was able to regain control of Chechnya and keep the other "breakaway regions" In Syria, they held off the opposition for YEARS and Assad stayed in power longer then any other leader in the region! They annexed Abkhazia and South Ossetia and the Georgians don't even dare attempt to try to take them back. They took Crimea, and Ukraine hasn't been able to get it back. Zelensky has been getting his ass kicked in Ukraine.

Yes, they lost Afghanistan, but the Russians have historically had better results in their wars then the Americans. So how can people say the US military is the best in the world?

Start with Strategically Russia allowed itself to get manipulated by the US into a war in Ukraine in which even if it wins it gains little and bleeds its manpower and resources for nothing. Its military has been shown to be weak as has its military technology.

In WW1 the Germans defeated them so badly that they had a revolution.

In the winter war a tiny force of Finns made the Russian army look like weak.

In WW2 the nazis invaded and swept Russian forces way back. If not for Britain and Russia they would have been defeated.

In Afghanistan they were badly beaten and humiliated, compare that to the US military's invasion 10 years later when US special forces took down Alqueda and the Taliban in a few months and forced the taliban to flee to Pakistan for 20 years.

Look at the proxy wars Russia fought against the US. Supporting north Korea and north Vietnam as well as others and the the sheer cost of all that aid.

Look at the overall cold war that Russia lost strategically, where they collapsed and were reduce territorly to just Russia with the countries they once dominated falling into the US hedgemony including countries that remained neutral throughout the cold war.

As for the US they were never defeated in Vietnam. The south Vietnamese were defeated. The Iraq war was a major success for the us, sadam was overthrown and a new us friendly government was installed with the cost of rebuilding Iraq paid to us companies from Iraqi oil revenue pumped by us companies and sold to the Chinese.

They won the Korean war.

The us largely stayed out of the cuban revolution. They could have stopped it easily as it was on their back door but it was the 1950s and they didn't want to appear as a imperial power when they were dismantling European empires. Theyve kept their heel on Cuba since then as a warning to others.

Syria was a success for the US. Assad was allied with Russia. He choose to stay allied to Russia and refused to allow a us oil/gas pipeline be built through Syria linking gulf oil states to Europe which would drastically undercut Russian oil/gas profits. The US armed, trained and funded a rebel group that would later become or join ISIS to attack Assad. They took a 90 degree turn into Iraq thus creating a bogeyman for the Iraqis who were trying to get the us to leave Iraq and remove us military bases, all of a sudden they needed the us to protect them from isis and today Iran.

Libya is another. Like Assad in Syria, Gaddafi was allied to Russia. The us did effectively bring Gaddafi and Libya into the US fold but that was a trick. Like bin laden Gaddafi had very publicity in the past attacked a US passenger jet and supported terror against the us and that was never going to be forgiven. So those scenes of Gaddafi being murdered by his own people that was orchestrated by the US.

The US started the Arab spring which neutralised or turned a lot of Russian friendly Arab countries to the US by installing US friendly governments.

Even when the US pulled out of Afghanistan it was a decision based less on politics and more on accountancy, yes the us could occupy Afghanistan for another 20 years very cheaply but there is nothing much to be gained and strategically they allowed the Taliban to take over leaving them an arsenal of weapons. Why? Because they Taliban are a volatile extremist group and they share a boarder with Iran, Pakistan, china and Russian friendly central Asian countries. Theyve already had minor conflicts with iran and Pakistan and as a major centre of Islamic extremism could present a problem for India and Russia.

Current us strategic policy is about sowing chaos.

I have seen the Russian army up close and personal, via their own uploads to Telegram—Including isolation pits and other punishments, brutal fist fighting, rear guard murder of deserters, them begging en masse for basic supplies, drinking brown river water, using Mad Max ‘cope’ cages contraptions for transport, etc. etc. —that combined with their performance—from running out of gas, or driving on wonky tires, to their archaic meat assault waves or their habit of dumping dumb bombs on their own cities—There is no way, NO WAY anywhere near ‘THE BEST’—and the US has a million problems for sure, but they are FAR FARRRR better prepared, better equipped, better organized, better EVERYTHING.

Let's get a few things straight, like history.
#1) "The Americans lost Vietnam" - the US was never "in it to win it". Ask the soldiers who were there, read the volumes of books on the subject. The US was there under the pretense of "stopping the spread of Communism", selling the idea that all of Asia would fall if South Vietnam fell. It was bullshit. We were there because war is profitable for the corporations that make war machinery, guns, ammo, bombs, etc.

#2) Cuba - One dictator got traded for another because the people were tired of the repressive regime of Batista. Castro was a popular revolutionary, the people believed in him, and he was excellent at guerilla warfare. The US backed Batista was obviously hated, and the US knew they could never turn that sentiment around as they openly backed him. There was no longer any "money" to be made in Cuba, so they withdrew.

#3) The Middle East - Afghanistan was a cash cow for military contractors for years. When was there ever a US interest in "freedom for the people"? Same is true anywhere in the Middle East. Just follow the money and ask yourself "who profited most from these wars or conflicts", and your answer is easy to see. All you ever need to do is follow the money.

What we've seen in Ukraine is centralized leadership and complete paralysis in the lower ranks. To the point they stand there and get slaughtered or simply run away from a fight. Garbage command and control. They were using their cell phones on unsecured networks because they didn't have a secure communications network. They lost most of their top of the line armor (tanks) and can't afford to replace them. They lost most of their Black Sea fleet to a country that doesn't even have a navy, LOL. They had to bring in North Korean troops because they are running out of fighting age Russians. They are still using tactics straight out of WWII battles in an age of fast moving combined arms teams and drone warfare. They get cut to ribbons constantly. And the Russians haven't faced anything like NATO airpower in Ukraine. The Russian military has been revealed as a joke. The only thing keeping Russia from being stomped like an insect is their nuclear arsenal which may or may not be functional. Most of their submarine fleet is in disrepair.

What are you even talking about? Russia has an equally bad military record to USA and that was before Ukraine basically Ctrl+Alt+Deleted their entire military AND the massive stockpile of military equipment and vehicles left over by the USSR. Russia is currently so weak that Azerbaijan currently feels brave enough to directly spit in Putins face and they are fucking neighbors.

Furthermore, Russia as a country is a strategic nightmare. Virtually no defensive terrain and surrounded by enemies that can at any moment of their choosing simply march into Russia and there is nothing that Russia can really do about it because their borders are just TOO long to defend. The only hope that Russia has historically is that the enemy forgets to pack winter clothing.

Another way to look at this is that the country is so massive that your enemies has all the room they require to maneuver around and destroy you.

Their nation is protected by terrain and infrastructure. Russia is wide open and leaves any Russian military units that is deployed extremely exposed and vulnerable to be encircled and destroyed.

LOL Neither are good. US relies on technological dominance and Russia with spending men's lives without thought (if they didn't go forward in WW2 they were shot so perhaps the weather and over reach by the Nazis was the reason they lost)

That’s silly. Russians run hundreds of soldiers into machine guns just to identify their position. Then they run out of troops. Crazy. And devastating for the country.

The US could be in everyone of those countries you mentioned and have them today but we had better things to do than try and help a helpless people get back on their feet. It isn’t the military. It is the politics surrounding United States military actions. Read the policies for each war you mentioned the United States was engaged in and you will see a great amount of political restraint upon the combat force of U. S. Military. This includes during World War II with Eisenhower restraining Patton for the benefit of Montgomery and the Soviets in the name of building a “ Coalition” Yet Patton still remains the most concurring General in world history surpassing even Alexander the Great. Back when wars were about conquest and not liberation and limited action.


What saved the Soviet Union from the Third Reich was the Russian Winter. Otherwise the Soviets were taking loss after loss till the winter set in on a unprepared German Army. Significantly more Germans died from exposure than from any Soviets actions. This is not a testimony of “Russian” military superiority by any stretch. Also, what year are the Russians in with Ukraine now?

Dude Russia has today in some aspects worse AD than WWII USSR and not enough rifles for everyone.

In a USA/Russia shooting war B-52s would be making mince meat out or Russian factories, bases and refineries after gaining air superiority.

We have seen how well their systems work against stealth in Iran.

As an Estonian... you probably know what i think of russians... Russia loses as many men in 1 week as US lost their soldiers in ENTIRE 9 year IRAQ WAR. That what is going on in Ukraine is a slaughterhouse. Now... those russian soldiers who have survived to this day they are battlehardened monsters with new tactics (fpv drones etc) If they would go against American Navy seals or whatever. Russia's army is too third world and they're more corrupt than even the US. I think they have potential and they're way ahead of the US in a lot of ways. They're more traditional, they have families, you don't see "pride parades" in Russia. Homosexual propaganda is even against the law there so Russia is pretty based in a lot of ways. So I have to take this question seriously. Russia is not even the second best army in the world.

During the Second World War, the USSR obtained massive American aid, without which the USSR would not have been able to win the war. At that time the USA was already the most developed economy and had the most powerful industrial capacity in the world, far ahead of any other country. What's more, the US won the Cold War with an intelligent strategy.

Honestly the war in Ukraine is not glorious for Russia already on a strategic level Putin succeeded in bringing closer the nato of its borders, what it wanted to avoid at the beginning, it succeeded in alienating neutral countries. As for what's happening on the ground, it's incomprehensible that Russia is taking so long to achieve a victory. Kyiv still hasn't fallen, even though there's a huge disproportion of forces.

And let's talk seriously, war can be won, thanks to your human, energetic and natural resources, your economy, your level of technological development, your industrial capacity and GDP in terms of purchasing power is also important. Russia is rushed in practically all these areas. There is therefore no possible comparison.
