You probably answered it yourself. Women are most frequently the victims and as far as victims go, male victims tend to be killed in the process.

I think it is spoken of a fair bit but I am hwavily biased given my parents worked with fighting it as I growing up.

As far as getting attention to it, it is also a lot easier for a woman to champion the cause. We definitely should shine a light on it so politicians everywhere divert some of the budget to making these crimes go extinct.

Not very random. I have, most people barely know it happens. As in, they know it happens in the same way they know murder happens. Sad when they hear about it but it is a rare sadness. Meanwhile unlike murder human trafficking is a global scale problem with heavy monetary incentives.

Just shining a constant light on it. As awkward as it is to say, people are easily distracted and our ability to focus often limited to a single thing or two.

Regardless of how you feel about a certain president right now it makes an excellent point of highlighting this particular human trait. People are not suddenly okay with human trafficking, there are just a thousand other things also competing for attention.

So what is needed is a lasting public outrage. Basically making it a recurring narrative people care about. And honestly most people do not feel their life is made better by hearing stories of forced sexual slavery or teens kidnapped in the streets to be chopped up and resold for parts.

Maybe elect some leaders who have a personal vendetta with it? Make news hang out leaders for every failure in regards to it? You need lasting fire somehow, how you get it is a different story.
