An economic tangent to isolationist policy and White Nationalist Fascism. Have you heard about the "Brain Drain" in the US?

For about a century and a half, the US and its higher education capacity has been a magnet for the smartest people in the world. People from Europe, India, Japan, China, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, etc. have all come here to be educated. In some cases they stuck around and became US citizens. It wasn't just undergrads either. A lot of these people have stuck around or come here specifically for advanced degrees, Masters and PhD's, in chemistry, engineering, computer science, biology, medicine, physics, metallurgy, geology, electronics, aerospace, etc. Smart people want to be around and learn from other smart people. And these people worked on research grants, published their work, and generally advanced human knowledge. The US economy indirectly or directly benefitted from all that brain power.

That has changed in a short 6 months since tRump took office and MAGA went on an anti immigrant revenge binge. The world is watching. Grad students (with visas) are being snatched off our streets by thugs in masks. People who "talk funny" and look "different" are being assaulted and screamed at as they go about their day. Well OK, they can take a hint. They see the Ivy League Universities that welcomed them 2 years ago bending over and taking a butt fucking from the White Nationalists under the authority of our Orange Ape like little bitches.

They aren't coming any longer. There's a shift underway. The UK, Japan, China, Germany, France, Australia, and other nations see the opportunity and are actively recruiting the best minds on the planet who no longer feel welcome or even safe in White Nationalist Christian America. In a panel discussion this morning, academics discussed the trend that is silently building momentum in US academia. Capitalists are shitting their pants.

There is a BRAIN DRAIN underway. We are so used to having our pick of the best minds on the planet. What happens 10, 25, or 50 years after we lose that advantage to our own arrogance?

Well yes, of course. Anyone with a modicum of intellegence will want to get as far away from Trump as possible. This same thing happened in Germany in the late 1930's and for the same reasons, except it was Hitler that time.

What's the first area where we lose the lead? And the next. And the next? At what point does it sink our economy to the point we're no longer a super power and we become another Russia?

Pakistani's, Indian's, and South Americans who came here for an education then accepted the jobs American medical professionals didn't want working in small hospitals in poor rural areas of the country in exchange for assistance with their education costs. They've been taking care of MAGA filth who call them names and spit on them.

Well now, in addition to these small rural hospitals shutting down as Medicaid funding dries up, these poor rural populations can watch their medical professionals walk away to a better life in the Canadian nationalized healthcare system where life is infinitely easier for people in the medical field. It's a disaster in an already broken "for profit" healthcare nightmare.

Fact is, there has always been competition for highly skilled people. Germany has a tough time competing with the US sometimes. Ever ask yourself why?

For 150 years our economy has been driven by the best minds on the planet. In 2025 that has all changed. They no longer see the US as a desirable place to learn and create. Other nations are not blind to that and are actively recruiting these minds. So what happens 10, 25, or 50 years after we lose our competitive advantage of genius? We are fat and lazy. The US has depended on immigrants to fuel our technological change for 150 years. Not every foreigner who comes here is an immigrant who wants to pick lettuce and strawberries. Albert Einstein, Werner Van Braun, and countless other mathematicians, physicists, chemists, biologists, engineers, etc. came here to learn and stayed to drive our economy. That is ending. We told them they aren't wanted here. We told them they aren't safe here. Other countries are actively recruiting that talent. And the talent is listening. How hard was this to see coming.
