What advice should I give my Iranian friend?

I have an online meeting friend named Maya who is 23 from Iran.
We talked on a phone call on WhatsApp and she talked about her struggles being a woman in Iran and having a family that is more controlling (won’t let her hang out with a male friend) and doesn’t have enough money to move out.

I told her I expect things to change due to the large young population of Iran that have been questioning the traditions of their society.
She is skeptical things will change soon.

I think things may change after the supreme leader dies because there is no clear successor and the system might get an overthrow but I didn’t say that because I don’t want her to get in trouble.

Unfortunately the Iranian system, including their religious leadership, had been stable enough to go on for the last few decades. So even when that current Ayatollah dies, they will simply select a successor of similar hard lines and nothing will change. Certainly not short to medium term. 🙁

Of course not. That would be counterproductive. There's no advice you could give her to change her circumstances, and she knows that. Just be careful.

I agree with you. The fact that she even mentioned not having money is a huge red flag. Also, Iranian girls don't "move out", unless they get married. If they were THAT controlling, she wouldn't any male friends or be allowed on social media. But social media is heavily suppressed and censored in Iran.
Also, most Iranians aren't radical. I've been talking to people online for almost 2 decades and never met an Iranian from Iran. I've also watched many documentaries on Iran. Iranian parents want their children to get married, so keeping her away from men makes no sense. Most Iranians aren't that radical.

This is NOT an Iranian girl you're talking to. Don't be naiive again. Just because you heard a woman's voice, doesn't mean anything.

And you have to wonder how many guys she's talking to about this. I'm not dissing on the asker. I had a Filipina teacher tell me she wanted to pay me to marry her and then divorce her. She just wanted to get to the USA.
