Are house prices just crazy insane?

Im looking at houses right know because i do want to move out of my parents' house eventually but i don't want a mortgage so im trying to save up every cent But there are some crazy people asking half a million for a 100-year-old houses and it's ridiculous and the houses aren't even that big or special not to mention the amount of maintenance a 100 year old house will need even if it was fully renovated the bricks and wood do get brittle over time and i can't see myself paying half a million for a 100 year old house.

I started with a 600 square foot condo for $72,000 cheap hoa. Realistically i might have sniped a good price on an older person who just passed away. So there was a hobbyists house flipper but it was still price to move.

That might be the only way to find housing affordable anymore. Look for new listings and jump on it. The seller might be so overwhelmed and wants that responsibility gone yesterday and won't entertain higher offers once your far enough in the buying process. Had to do that for my parents property.

It's the people who want their cake and eat it too is what's making life hard.

Buying a house is not a good investment now. My fiancée's sister is renting to buy. She pays the rent for the house and eventually that will offset the price the house will sell for, and she'll own it. If this is a possibility for you, I'd look into it.

or get a one bedroom condo pay in cash. Continue saving when you have no mortgage it’s very easy to save.
if you have a wife… with dual income, work on saving more. Once you have a small child, sell condo. Buy a home with cash again.
to me… that is the American dream. However, 90 percent of Americans are not thinking like you.

Houses are expensive. I live in a nice neighborhood. It is nothing special but the houses are 20-40 years old. Most of them could sell for over a million dollars. This is the house across the street. The owners could get a million dollars for this house.

Somebody would pay a million dollars to live across the street from me.

Where are you? Are there better houses that are cheaper? I'm in Seattle and half a million gets you a one bedroom condo.

It’s really not realistic to expect to pay for a house with cash. But I’d suggest expanding the geographic area you’re looking in.
