Heroes? Bwahahahahahahaha! It's all marketing. Cannon fodder is always the poor and lower middle class with few options in life. Dead "heroes" makes for an outraged public. It's just good propaganda. The dead cost nothing. The wounded have no political power. Grieving parents are invisible for the most part. The public have little interest and a short memory. They just want their iPhones. Dead brown bodies piled up in a ditch on the other side of the world don't stink up America's back yards. Most people will never know the real reasons for the violence. Nor will they care. What are stock prices doing today? Is that new car being delivered tomorrow? Will my secretary let me bend her over Thursday night after work? No one really wants to know all the dirty little details. But thank you for your service.

cannon fodder really isn't that marketable. If you can be remembered as an unnamed person that dosen't need any monetary support thats best for the country in the long run.

We can do this song and dance for you forever but real material conditions like housing or food eat shit and die like you should have done and not come home and be burden. It's hard not to see it that way anymore.

Yes there is good nature traditions that want to honor solders. There is just such a gap in the follow through in our modern era.

@dcvsmarvel2 I have felt that way.. in the past, but I don't know any substitute unless we have more wars/battles with Drones or Android soldiers

That depends on the country and its military doctrine. In Sweden and similar western countries not so much, in Russia very much so.
