Well, I think that depends on what five year period you're talking about. I arrived in Chicago in the Spring of 1986, and it was a great place to live for a long time, until the 2010's and later. After the mortgage crisis of 2008/09, Washington kept rates too low for too long, and all the affordable places to live were promptly sold, torn down and turned into expensive condos, and it just wasn't the same after that, and it got steadily worse under 'Lighthead Leadfoot' and then the current Marxist, Brandon Johnson, a teachers union stooge.
