Do you ever talk to yourself?

I do al ot, have done it ever since I was a child. My mom tells me not to do it and rags on me about it that people ask her all the time why I do ut. She's thinking they are going ro put me in a institution for doing it. Hell a lot of people do it

In general, I try not to. In fact, I often try to actively avoid myself altogether. I'm kind of rude, I don't listen to anything I say, I interrupt myself. Whenever I see myself coming, I pull out my phone and pretend my wife is calling (that might only work for so long though; I might figure it out). Or I get up from the couch or table and leave.

Plus, I'm tired of hearing about the same stuff every day. Yes, Die Hard is a Christmas movie. Yes, Independence Day is the greatest movie ever. Yes, the St. Louis Cardinals are more of a joke than Stephen Colbert's dignity and career. Yes, it's funny that my son knows "taxation is theft" and "yellow light means 'go faster'". But GOOD... GRIEF, IT'S ANNOYING!

I talk to myself, but I've always called it 'thinking out loud.' It's just one of many tools at my disposal. The mind processes your thoughts a little differently thinking out loud than thinking silently or writing them down, as slightly different parts of the brain and pathways are used. It can be useful.

As long as it doesn't significantly negatively impact your ability to function in society, I can't understand your mother's objection to it other than as her pet peeve.

I think it's normal inside your head to do so. And sometimes jokingly out loud. But if you do it in front of other people a lot we'll then yeah that's gonna be a bit crazy sounding.

Yes. In 99,99% of my talks with myself are silent. It's called inner dialogue or monologue and surely something someone should be ashamed of.

@smahala1991 Talking to yourself is a good way of verbalizing what may be troubling you, or help you make decisions out loud. Nothing at all wrong with verbalizing your thoughts. My brother tended to be a smart mouth about my talking to myself.

All the time. The thoughts in my head seem to be never ending, and occasionally they escape. My second greatest fear is that i will one day lose the ability to censor myself completely and be locked up because i sound like a lunatic.
