Why do Democrats think banning guns will reduce mass shootings/bombings?

Criminals can still get guns illegally. Banning drugs never stopped the criminals from buying/selling drugs, now did it? Nope.

As I just wrote on Quora, the Unibomber did his killings with homemade bombs and the guys who bombed the Oklahoma City Federal Building did it with a few gallons of Diesel fuel and some bags of 13/13/13 fertilizer. You can probably get it to mix exactly correctly within one or two tries, which is why so few people noticed them making and testing practice bombs. I know exactly how to make both types of bombs my own self, and you can do it with some basic household chemicals or some stuff you buy from the local farmer's co-op.

Because they view the world based on how they see things so they're the type of people that if they had a gun and got mad at somebody they would be quick to pull it and use it on them so they assume that that's how everybody would be so the people who want to take guns away from other people are exactly the people that shouldn't have guns in the first place

Here’s an interesting fact for you. The gun-banning left made a huge mistake when they started talking about banning guns after the recent church shooting. The gun registration form flat out asked you if you have mental problems.
Now there is a serious talk about banning trannies from owning guns.

they want to ban legal guns while having open borders. None of them actually think this will stop gun violence. They just don't want YOU to be able to defend yourself. There is no argument which they can make against this as long as they support open borders.
