When one side feeds the population a steady diet for "Trump is a facist" ""ICE is disappearing citizens" "Republicans are racist" and "death to America" there is bound to be some very suggestable people out there that will get a gun and kill somebody that they have been told is a bad person and should be killed.

What Girls & Guys Said
Opinion
40Opinion
5.6K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Well, of course, but this all began in 1988, so it really shouldn't have been unexpected.
See this guy?

Giant Douche and Turd Sandwich No, not the guy on the left. He's President now. In large part because he and his apparatchiks in the GOP learned a lot from the guy on the right. That guy's name was Lee Atwater and he's using a sunscreen lotion with and SPF of a zillion while burning in Hell right now.
Lee Atwater was the 1988 GOP Presidential Campaign Chairman when Vice President George H. W. Bush (aka Bush 41) ran for and then became President. Bush was a rather bland guy - certainly compared to Ronald Reagan - and was even perceived by many to be "wimpy". President Bush had class and came from a wealthy background - a blue blood family with a history of politics going back to his grandfather who was a US Senator from Maine. So, using nasty negative tactics would have been beneath the Bush clan. So, instead, they hired Lee Atwater and HE did all the nasty shit no one in the Establishment (GOP or DEM) would do. He "went there" and did incredibly vile evil shit.
So evil that even God got fed-up with him.
So, God gave Satan a heads-up to start digging a new even deeper circle of Hell as God promply gave Atwater brain cancer. Bush was elected President in November 1988 and became President in January 1989. Atwater's cancer was detected in March 1990 and he was dead in March 1991 a month after turning 40. At least Atwater's not lonely in Hell; Rush Limbaugh is with him.
What Atwater did is rather numerous to recount and I don't want to get pissed-off again but here's a 1981 example. This is when he discussed the "Southern Strategy" to get Southern racists to vote for the GOP.
https://www.youtube.com/embed/X_8E3ENrKrQSuffice it to say that politics was still more or less a pleasant business during the Reagan Administration as Democrats and Republics still worked well together. And, despite Bush winning the Presidency, for the most part, the DEMs and GOP still worked well together. One problem was Clarence Thomas who replaced Thurgood Marshall and that was a major turning point in why the Supreme Court is so fucked up now. Anyway, Atwater was a divisive figure meaning he deliberately created divisions and incited hatred and used bigotries. It didn't matter to him. He was the ultimate modern Machiavellian. Like I said: He was evil and God took him out. God may be patient, but there comes a point when even God won't tolerate you any more. And that's what happened to Atwater.
However, because Atwater died and couldn't work on Bush's re-election campaign in 1992, Bill Clinton, who presented as a moderate baby-boomer Democrat from the South, was able to become President making Bush 41 a 1-term President. That really pissed off the GOP Establishment. Clinton's nickname was Slick Willy and, well, he earned that nickname. Clinton was an idealistic Kennedy-loving hippy-type believing in government and public service to make the country and the world a better place. With that idealism, he became Governor of Arkansas in 1978. However, that's when Carter, a former fellow Southern Governor, was President. Times were bad in the 1970s and Carter, while a man of unquestioned morals, was not a very energetic and charismatic leader. That's why Reagan, who was, got elected in 1980 - but, the voters didn't just reject Carter... they rejected many Democrats, especially down South. So, Clinton lost re-election in 1980 and learned from that that idealism of politics gave way to the realities of politics. Thus, even though, deep down, he and Hillary were always idealists, Bill Clinton came across as Slick Willy. I can't really comment on that, but Clinton was smart and he likely used subtle tactics (Google "Clinton Fist") that he used successfully to become Governor of Arkansas again and then later President. Bush didn't help himself either though - he was out of touch with most people and his opposition to the Family Medical Leave Act is one big thing that did him in. (Clinton passed it very early in his Presidency.)
Anyway, like I said, with Atwater gone and having to go up against Slick Willy, the GOP lost the 1992 re-election of Bush 41. Furthermore, Clinton won a plurality, not a majority, because Ross Perot was a strong third-party candidate in 1992. That pissed them off to no end. But, early in the Clinton Administration in 1993, First Lady Hillary Clinton - an unelected official - because involved in creating a health care plan. A lot of conservatives didn't like this "co-presidency" since no First Lady was ever actually involved in the political process before and she was not elected. There was a bad reaction to that. So, those who learned from Atwater - like Karl Rove and future Speaker Newt Gingrich - began with the shit. So, by 1994, we had the Contract On Ameri... uh,... Contract With America (that's what the GOP called it) and did well in the mid-terms. But, it was that period... 1994ish... when the divisiveness began with the GOP after having learned how successful it was with Atwater in 1988.
As Atwater was dying, supposedly he tried to apologize to everyone he fucked over. Maybe he realized he sold his soul to achieve greatness. Who knows? He allegedly found God and read his Bible... except, after he died and they were cleaning out his things, they found that Bible and it was still in its cellophane wrapping. Evil full-of-shit scumbag right to the end.
There. That's your very important history lesson: The modern divisiveness that, of course, would lead to violence began with Lee Atwater and, since he died young, taken up by his acolytes in the GOP including Donald Trump.

Anonymous(25-29)8 moYes. And this comment section is proving why. It's always "they" and finger pointing. The left did this, the right did that. Both sides are groomed to hate the other; can't prove me wrong on this either. Everyone plays the blame game. One takes the hard road to find common ground and get to the root of our collective issues.
I despised Charlie and his views. He was a trash human being. Doesn't mean he deserved to be killed. And in front of his family no less. What bothers me is that people are using that as "Oh the left needs to own this! This is what they wanted! It's us vs them now!" Like, no the fuck it is not the left that needs to own it. If you look at a lot of the most influential left figures, they're all outraged and saying that anyone celebrating it his death is wrong. But we need someone to blame and blaming "them" is always the easiest solution.
Genuinely tired of our party blaming the left for all of our problems as if we don't cause more than half of it ourselves (collectively).26 Reply

Also, to your other comment, Melissa Hortman, a democratic lawmaker, her husband and their dog were assassinated back in June by a Republican voter Vance Boeltler. Same man shot a Minnesota state senator, John Hoffman, and his wife earlier that day. They at least survived
Asker8 moIm sorry to hear that , my condolences

That’s a lie. Boelter was a DEMOCRAT appointed by DEMOCRAT Tim Walz, and he shot those people because they were part of a bipartisan project that the radical left he was taking orders from opposed vehemently.

8 moI think the rhetoric from the left has been threatning for long time and now, quite a few are armed. I suspect as what happened with the CEO shooting, many will see this as "it's fair" and he's a martyr. That's beyond sick as he was just stating his opinions and asking questions. He held no power.
I suspect it's dangerous and results in more security for some and crackdowns and spying on others. We will find out.
What this means to all of us is more spying and more expense.

You mean the left that's been systematically demonised by the right since the 1980's? The left that you're demonising right now?
It must be 8 years or more ago I posted As an American, do you think of Democrats and Republicans, or Liberals and Americans? ↗
"I never use the words Democrats and Republicans. It's liberals and Americans." James Watt (Reagan's interior secretary), 1981.
Kirk was killed by someone even further right than he was.

If they were dating, then that is true. Maybe his motive was complex.
Whatever it was, it sure as hell wasn't anything like what the majority of Americans you would classify as "the Left" would even consider. The liars who tried to paint the as yet unknown perpetrator as a typical leftist have a lot to answer for. (Have you seen how their tone changed when they found out he was from a right-wing, gun toting white Mormon family? It would be hilarious if it wasn't so serious.)
Asker8 mo@goaded lately more liberals are buying guns, which is odd cuz they’re usually against them

8 moBack before the year 2000, Democrats and Republicans worked together, Sure, they had their disagreements, but they usually reached a compromise.
Then the 2000 Presidential election happened,. The Democrats believed the election was stolen from them, all because of hanging chad in Florida. Fast forward a few years to the 2020 election, where Republicans believed the election was stolen because of the changed voting rules (mail-in voting, for example) that resulted in the highest vote totals of any election.
So, Democrats and Republicans no longer work together, they blame each other for their losses.
Sad. Will it ever end? We can only hope so. Maybe it's time to elect an Independent President (2028, maybe 2032?) who can bring everyone together again?

And for them to say that Charlie is violent, the FUCKEN IRONY. The man did not shoot, punch, push, spit on, slap, throw shit at people he debated. He simply used words. Also ironic how the people that claim to want to ban guns and criticize Charlie for being pro 2A, USE GUNS to carry out these attacks on politicians they hate.10 Reply
8 moBlame the MSM (CNN, MSNBC, ABC), as well as, radical left wing echo chambers and organizations that constantly tell people on the left that those on the right are nazis, fascist and evil. It was always going to head in this direction, when the media make articles like these in order to generate views for themselves. Places like reddit are not any better as they heavily censor people on the right, so those that go on that site only hear life wing propaganda and become even more radicalized in their belief that the right is evil.

Anonymous(36-45)8 moPushing for non-stop violence and hatred is crazy and it's time to stop pretending that it's both sides. The left calling everyone who supports the current President a "nazi" is wild while it's the LEFT politically assassinating people who speak out with a differing opinion.
Political gaslighting. Already, conservatives are making huge efforts to make sure we don't riot in the streets, yet if this had been the opposite situation, cities would already be burning from those on the "tolerant left".
20 Reply8.1K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Yes and I 100% blame the legacy media and you can never hate these people (if you can even call them that) enough. They want those who are distrusting of them dead and they think it is funny. When they call you a fascist or a Nazi or whatever, they are marking you for death by justifying why you must be killed. What happened to Kirk and Trump is proof of this.

Asker8 moIn America , but yes political violence exists everywhere
- 8 mo
In the US it would be somewhat misleading to say that the political landscape is getting too violent. Because it misses the bigger picture. Rather we ought to say that the whole landscape of America is violent (in particular because of the ease with which everyone can have a firearm), and that now this violence has reached the political landscape as well with the attempted assassination of President Trump, and now the assassination of Charlie Kirk. Both gun violence.
Asker8 moIt’s a mental health crisis

That's why too many guns in circulation aren't a good idea dear!
Asker8 moIt doesn’t stop crazy people
Asker8 moMany people have killed without guns
Asker8 moWe gonna ban cars and knives and fire too?
- 8 mo
But guns are specifically designed to kill! They can be easily concealed, and like you can see in the case of Charlie Kirk a firearm gives you the ability to kill from a distance. To me mental health crises (like you said) and guns don't mix well! ;) Its like you said listen there are many ways crazy people can kill so lets give them guns too so that they have more options. lol Infact there in America there are some papers you need to fill the first time you buy a gun maybe to check your mental state! See?
Asker8 moI believe in background checks and stopping the illegal trade of weapons on the street
- 8 mo
Its not just the illegal which is the problem, its also the legal as granted by your constitution. The constitution of the United States of America has created this violent background. Because people can carry and own guns there as if it was a mobile phone. I dont see why you dont want to admit it. Not all the constitution of America is wrong. The part which speaks about guns which needs to be addressed apparently.
